We had a mixed experience here. The inn's front room is very comfortable, with sitting areas, and lots of good books, magazines and puzzles. Friendly inn-keeper (lives on site). The breakfast was very good/excellent. Our room was one of their two room suites, with good bed and chairs, one room had a pair of twin beds. Window AC unit was only fair at climate control. Bathroom was clean, but only average. I cannot speak to other rooms, but ours was not as good as the common areas and breakfast. Breakfast was the best part of our stay there.

The Old Granite Inn was recommended to us first-timers by locals living on Vinalhaven Island. They certainly did not mislead us! Ed and Joan, the Innkeepers, made us feel very welcome and were very informative. The location is perfect for anyone taking a morning Ferry to Vinalhaven or North Haven. It is also convenient for a walk through Rockland’s beautiful downtown shopping area. Most of the rooms have a view of the harbor. We chose a room without that view but found it perfect for our one night stay. The room was spotless, had a comfortable bed, plenty of drawer space and a private bathroom. There is 24 hour coffee and tea station and a welcoming front room full of reading materials, games, and other interesting items. The front porch is another perfect place to relax and view the harbor. Ed is also the chef and served a wonderful breakfast of tomato and broccoli frittata, mixed fruit, fresh baked muffins and scones. Breakfast also included Ed’s very tasty cornmeal pancakes, which I topped off with genuine Maine Maple syrup! We will become regulars as we return to Vinalhaven Island each year to visit our family. And have already recommended it to other family members headed to the island!

From the outside it looks a bit unusual and the Granite Inn IS unusual in a wonderful way. It provides a community for guests! Our room was fine--nothing fancy, but well maintained and tasteful. The innkeepers were an older couple--he a musician, she an artist. They are fine cooks and served up a fabulous breakfast both days we stayed there. They made the best hollandaise I've ever had on their eggs benedict! The guests--many of whom were regulars--were interesting people all, e.g. owner of a chocolate store moving to an island nearby, an L.A. based entertainment lawyer and a published woman writer. What interesting conversations took place around the breakfast tables. Definitely a place we would return for if we visit Rockland again.

We choose to spend a couple of nights here on a recent trip to Maine. It is more of a homey bed and breakfast than an inn but this was not an issue for us. We stayed in a queen room on the second floor of the original house. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. A light sleeper might want a room towards the back of the house since the inn sits on highway 1 and there is some road noise early in the morning. There is coffee and snacks available in the evening and they provided ice when we requested it. Breakfast was good with plenty of options. The owners were very helpful in providing information on places to visit and the location is great for sightseeing both north and south of Rockland.

This place was probably very nice at one time. To start, the front walkway & porch needed a good sweeping & cleaning. The plants in the front are overgrown and growing into the walkway & porch. There's no AC in the common areas & it was quite musty during the heat wave. There was a stack of old papers, etc. in the main room. Everything looked like it needed updating & deep cleaning. The room thankfully had a small window AC unit that chugged away all night. The room needed a good deep cleaning. The rug was either not vacuumed or stained or both. One of the pillowcases had a good sized hole in it. Not what I consider luxury linens. We had many mosquitoes and other bugs in the room too that night. The windows are old & really need replacing. On the positive side the bed was comfortable & the bathroom was large & appeared to be clean. The best part was the homemade breakfast including their signature cornmeal pancakes with warm maple syrup.

This was our first stay at the Old Granite Inn. We will be return customers when we travel to mid-coast Maine again. The Inn is just what you would expect from a building built in 1840, not new, but very well maintained and everything working. The breakfasts were great every day and would rival an expensive meal from any restaurant. If you are looking for modern amenities like a pool, bar and elevator; stay elsewhere. If you are looking for a "throwback in time" place overlooking the ocean, with great food and very nice people; stay here. Well worth the price paid. Thank you Ed and Joan for a great stay!

Historic- rustic inn This is my kind of place-5 Star, if you find a two hundred year old Granite Inn charming, as we did, this is it! High ceilings, large window’s, rich wood furnishings, some antiques in lobby, fireplace in-room, firm bed, location on Main St. downtown Rockland. The street noise abates around 9:30pm. We had a pleasant night enjoying a comfortable large room on the 2nd floor, facing Harbor and Ferry. Loved the seaside town. Awaken to a deliciously hearty breakfast with strong coffee, and fresh fruit. Found owner and staff helpful, and friendly. A Real escape from the ordinary. Can’t wait to return.

We stayed here while spending the weekend in Rockland. We love old inns and have missed the opportunity to meet and talk with other guests. This weekend was just what we needed after two years not traveling. Comfortable bed, good quality linens, electric fireplace in the room, modern en-suite bath, room thermostat. The host would light the fireplace in the living room in the evenings and we enjoyed reading there or working on the huge jigsaw puzzle. Gourmet but simple food for breakfast: crepes with blueberry sauce, savory scones, veggie/cheese frittatas, buckwheat-walnut-honey pancakes with maple syrup, blueberry muffins, puff pastry with egg and sausage - and this is just two days! Fresh fruit salad everyday. Excellent service by the hosts, family-owned and on site. We will definitely come back.

Our room overlooked the harbor and it was interesting to watch cars lined up for the ferry. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts. Especially the blueberry coffee cake, which served as a birthday cake for my partner. Fresh fruit and eggs served in two different ways. A wonderful weekend with special memories
