Great room and great hotel, friendly staff but expensive and they charge for parking.

Over rated hotel. Not worth the 500 euros per night. Could easily find a hotel for less. Also when booking on this site, the algorithm booked my room for one month sooner. It was absolute hell getting this straightened out and charged me an additional 300 euro. So be wary!!!!

Wow, we absolutely loved our stay at Castel Hortenberg in Bolzano - in fact I would say it was the best hotel we have ever stayed at in Italy. Tucked away on a small side street, a few minutes walk from the centre of the city, this is exactly the kind of hotel we like to stay in - boutique, small & luxurious. The hotel is a recently renovated castle with about 25 bedrooms & has been done to a very high standard, with decor and design at the forefront. We arrived slightly earlier than the official check-in time and were offered complimentary drinks whilst we waited for our room to be made ready. We chose tea and this was served with the most divine homemade biscuits. We had booked a Deluxe Room which was lovely. The criteria that we look for when choosing a hotel room is: a good sized bedroom with seating (comfortable chairs or sofa), high quality bedding, modern & fresh decor, windows which open, and a modern & spacious bathroom with good quality toiletries. It ticked all of these boxes and more. The bedding and mattress was incredibly comfortable and we both slept really well. There were also complimentary jars of nuts & biscuits in the room. The breakfast was excellent and I absolutely loved the fresh juice machine which we used every day at breakfast. The outdoor heated pool & spa area was divine too - which I used most days whilst my husband was out running. Due to the fact that most restaurants are closed on a Sunday evening in Bolzano, we decided to have dinner at the hotel on the Sunday evening (which we wouldn't normally do, as most hotel restaurant food is not nearly as good as the local restaurants) .......but we were really pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is situated in the basement of the hotel and had a really lovely warm atmosphere. The dinner was really top notch! All of the hotel staff were also really helpful & friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Bolzano - as Bolzano's only 5 star hotel, this has got to be the best place to stay. Oh and we really loved Bolzano too - we stayed for 3 nights whilst on our way to Cortina d'Ampezzo for a winter hiking holiday! Thank you everyone!

We have visited this hotel several times over the years, it has a perfect location for seeing the area plus Bolzano (Bozen) by foot or bike (electric) provided free from the hotel! all can be discovered easily! The level of quality and detail in design in this hotel is impressive! But for us the contact with everyone from cleaner/waitress/reception/managment is what makes a good hotel a great hotel! The level of services on offer is also way above the size for this hotel, you have four different saunas you have a outdoor jacuzzi you have a relax area with great beds you have a outdoor all year round heated swimming pool with great furniture etc etc! The evening restaurant is located in the cellar which for some might sound negative so i include a photo it’s wow! Food also. My last comment is to say a personal thank you you to Tatiana on reception, we run a family business and really appreciate good service like we try to provide ourselves, but we must say her level of customer service is off the scale good!!!. Looking forward to our return!
