My family & I stopped here on our way home from Christmas shopping in Cardiff. We have visited the Forge restaurant many times over the years and have ALWAYS found the staff to be friendly and welcoming serving great food reasonably priced. IT IS AWFUL NEWS THAT AFTER 71 YEARS THE “NEW” OWNER TOLD THE STAFF LAST WEEK THAT HE HAS DECIDED TO CLOSE THE FORGE DOWN. We will certainly miss it & wish all the lovely staff all the very best.

Simple check in - comfy room good parking, plenty of space so don’t feel like you are bumping into other residents. Only gripe was the shower height adjuster was broken so had to hold it up… I survived 😁. Other than that - with an early departure on the Sunday morning it was easy to pack the bike and leave without feeling like you were disrupting everyone

This place is a truck stop! we had booked for two nights but after one we requested a refund and went elsewhere, the rooms were smelly, dirty and grimy, stained beds and carpets, shower had low water pressure and the soap dispenser was filled with a nasty coloured substance (not that I would use it) traffic noise prevented us sleeping. If you do stay here keep your socks on when you go to bed because if you get up to use the bathroom you won’t want your feet touching the floor!

We have stayed at the Forge a couple of times now. The rooms are dated but clean and very reasonably priced. We phoned direct to book as you get a better price. We opted for what they class as a single room but has a double bed so suitable for a couple. There is a small swimming pool and The Firehouse restaurant next door for meals. The food at the restaurant is excellent. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and some rooms.

Myself and a colleague stayed at the Forge Motel for one night after performing a firework display for a wedding at nearby Slebech Estate. I booked 2 rooms over the phone, and they were very good for our purposes, as we arrive back very late. Both rooms had double beds, en-suite facilities - tea and coffee making facilities - water, the usual things - a basic room with everything you need, large enough - with a tv and plenty of storage too. The beds were great. We had breakfast the next morning for which you pay separately from the Motel side of the business. Ordered 2 large breakfasts, which were absolutely massive! We had been out all day and evening the day before with no proper food, and we could not manage to eat all of our breakfast! On the whole a great place, much better value than Premier and Travelodge, probably less than half the cost of the local ones for the same size room. Plus you can literally park outside your room depending what size room you have. And the breakfasts were something else. no need for an all you can eat service here, as you will struggle to eat the normal one. The staff were all very good - smiling, pleasant mannered and attentive without being intrusive. Excellent place and we shall return when we have further work this way.

Only stayed overnight in room 11 very run down and dated, the bathroom has a strong urine smell witch made me nauseous could be the drainage in the shower but wasn’t going to check. Tv so small you need binoculars to watch there was also 40 beer cans empty left in the wardrobe so it shows that cleaning is not top of their list of tasks ,Only up side the food is good and the breakfast was lovely so hats off to restaurant staff.

What can I say. My wife and I were visiting the area as we were looking to move here and we’re visiting properties. This was an ideal base and the large icing on the cake was the service we received from all the staff and the really good food. The staff could not do enough to cater for our unusual eating habits due to our medical conditions. I would totally recommend a stop if passing for a great meal or like us if you need accommodation as well.

I’m not sure where all the good reviews have come from as my stay was not very good at all. The positives are that the bedding is clean and the family rooms do have 2 double beds in. The shower and toilet works. I think the god ends there. Actually not true - I found the staff to be friendly, but not genuine. They are also happy to deceive you and just blow it off like it’s nothing. We stayed here in an emergency as we had no water and needed somewhere that was close to the kids schools. The other accommodation in st clears has availability and was much cheaper, but we chose this as it had a pool and sauna. When we arrived we were not at all told that neither of these worked (we A even get to see any of them) The rooms smell musty and damp… and have clearly not been used much as it isn’t cleaned that well… woodlouse everywhere! The side table has lamps on each one… but no walk socket to plug them in to which was weird. It’s like it’s staffed for a photograph but not for function. Had they had some morals to be honest about the facilities available I probably wouldn’t be annoyed enough to leave this review. We also ate there … mixed review on that. It’s basic pub fayre… but there pizzas are nothing more than Asda pizzas but with a larger price. They looked quite gross really. My chips for my gammon were on the other hand absolutely delicious. There is a lack of consistency throughout. I don’t really understand how a place like that can cover their bills… oh yes I do … by lying to customers and overcharging for their rooms with the promise of facilities that they don’t have. I don’t think businesses with that model should be supported. Think long and hard about if they are with paying for. There are other hotels nearby. Better and offer value and have standards to live up to.

Rooms nice and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Food fantastic. Very good over all. Only small criticism thing is that the sauna wasn’t on and we couldn’t figure out how to put it on but over all 9,5 out of 10.
