The hotel was fine although I had a major problem at check in as Trip.Com had not paid the room (that I had paid) and I had to pay a deposit to enter the room.

There was a problem when booking into hotel as we had gone through Trip.com and receptionist said that we had not paid as no confirmation had come over to them from third party.
We explained that we had paid showed her the relevant information on my phone etc -but still insisted that we had to pay .
We waited at reception for about 40 minutes while we waited for the receptionist and manager were in back room sorting it out.This in fact made us late for our evening meal - which we had to miss out on- as well as being late for our meet n greet showing at the Theatre Royal - which we also missed out on- It spoilt our evening - but the amenities and staff in the hotel were fabulous- especially the young girl who served us breakfast in the morning.x

Lovely clean hotel with plenty of shops nearby. Staff very friendly, room roomy and bed comfortable. Food excellent and reasonably priced. Would recommend and would definitely stay again.

Travelling with family we used Mercure St Helens as a stopover to break up Glasgow to London. The hotel itself is great, friendly staff and has lots of facilities.
You can access the separate(but attatched) fitness centre, swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi with a booked slot. It was so easy to book and these facilities were a great added bonus.
The location is close to shops and restaurants and the hotel has a small late night bar. We did find an unknown sock in our room so have to mark down the cleanliness for that, but otherwise clean and the rooms have tes coffee, hairdryer, all the essentials.
Value for money.
