Mercure Haydock Hotel

The hotel is very closed to the companies we visit ~ nice people, nice place, nice breakfast ~

On arrival we were dismayed to learn that a permanent wedding marquee was erected in the internal courtyard, adjacent to our ground floor room. Although the music finished at midnight as promised by the receptionist, it was very loud and there was no chance of sleep before then. The room was not well maintained. The curtains were motheaten and the bathroom was a disgrace, with failed mastic around the cistern top, corrosion to the towel rail, cracks in the sink, blackened (with age) plughole and a detached plug with the separately detached plug chain left to lie on the shelf. There were several teas available e.g. green, Earl Gray but only one breakfast tea bag between the two of us. There was only one water glass. Whilst the bar staff (who also took orders for food, the restaurant being closed) were by and large courteous and pleasant, they were inefficient. The overall impression was that the premises lacked active management.

Hotel is good, welcome at desk, managed to checked in within 5 mins. Wedding on but noise not too bad. Inside room, great TV fully Smart TV with all the Apps, all in all great price for this hotel. PS Parking FREE plenty of space,

The bathroom facilities are a little dated and we had to move room as our toilet wouldn't flush. Breakfast was good and the staff were all lovely.

I was recommended to stay at Mercure hotel by a family member. The hotel location was good and easy to find. Upon arrival, I was welcomed at reception, checked in and given all important info. There was a wedding at the hotel grounds. The first issue we encountered was soon after we left reception. One of the doors required you to swipe the key card to access the hallway where the rooms were located. The door would not open even after we tried using 8 different key cards. Another couple also tried to use their 4 key cards but it would not open so we were stuck there. The receptionist finally showed up and opened the door. We booked 3 rooms in total... My room looked well organised and tidy but the bathroom was not clean!! There was lots of hair on the bathroom floor and some grime/lime scale in the corners of the bathtub. In addition, the bathroom did not have a Toilet Brush. I went to the 2nd room we booked. That room also did not have a toilet brush. The window did not open!! The hotel had the audacity to put a warning note on the window stating that the window does not open. Instead of fixing the window to make sure that guests have a window that opens especially now since it is summer and quite hot. I went to the 3rd room we booked. That room also did not have a toilet brush. So all 3 rooms we booked had no toilet brushes!! The major issue in the room was the toilet was not flushing. The issues with the hotel rooms are all petty issues that should never happen in a 4 or 5 star hotel. It was quite dissapointing because we had issues right from the start before we even entered the rooms when the door was jammed. In addition, the hotel did not have any elevators which is a major disadvantage for people who are disabled or people who have issues with walking. The only highlight we have of the hotel is the buffet breakfast. There was a wide variety of hot and cold food available plus drinks. Breakfast was and the service was quite good.

When checking in was advised there was a wedding on till 12.30 however she didn't tell me my room was opposite the marquee with loads music till midnight wasn't impressed

The location and grounds are very pleasant. The only issue I encountered was the lack of air conditioning, making it difficul for me to get a good night’s sleep. The rooms are very clean, and the staff is polite. I’ve stayed there before, and they’ve always been accommodating.

Booked for Haydock Races however the race day got cancelled unfortunately.  We were a group of 10 and still went to the hotel.  We went into Newton Le Willow had drinks and a curry.  Hotel is nice however looking tired.  Towel rail was on roasting all day/night which made the bathroom far too hot.  Otherwise a nice room.

The rooms are dated and the sink had cracks in and the shower was leaking. For it to be £165 inc breakfast I would say this is very expensive! Breakfast was nice.
