Mercure Saint Malo Balmoral

This hotel is the standard Mercure. Clean, better than basic, fine. But don’t confuse this with the other Mercure in St Malo. This one is a fair distance from intra muros. The welcome was less than graceful. Greeted by a rather distant receptionist. We were told that the indoor parking was full and then directed fairly peremptorily to a nearby car park. It was all fine, but not what I came to expect from Mercures in my working life. She seemed to respond better later when I spoke French, asking where breakfast was to be served. It was the usual Mercure. Reliable and fine for work. If you want something special on holiday, maybe try another place,

What a beautiful location to spend a vacation. Located directly on the beach. Staff is lovely and most helpful. We loved the sea**** bread in the morning we also enjoyed the nearby restaurants and walking to St Malo. It was very convenient for us to drive to three different golf courses and to visit Cancale , Dinard and Dinnan . We were pleased with the comfortable beds. A very relaxing vacation. This was are second Time staying there and we will return next year.

We carefully killed the time until 3:00 check-in but our room was still not ready until almost 3:30. Our sea view was nice. The room was well- designed but tiny. Bathroom was also very well-designed and appointed. We’re naive Americans and had never seen the thing where you have to insert your hotel key to get any electricity in the room, had to figure that out on our own. We speak a bit of French, the hotel clerk insisted on English, but he did not understand that I wanted food but my husband didn’t, so we were served expensive food we did not want. And the bed “linens” felt like some kind of disposable plasticish weave. Not terrible, not great.

This is an excellent hotel with great views over looking the promenade and sea. The hotel is clean and tidy but the Wifi connection could be better. The staff are friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay.
Mercure St Malo Front de Mer

Charming seafront hotel - rooms facing the beach have a breathtaking view- day and night- and pretty perfect to watch the stunning sunset from. Rooms were a decent size and well equipped with storage space. The art on the walls nods at your location- arty photos of fishing boats and that sort of thing. The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom absolutely fine, decent showers and water pressure. The staff we met were friendly and spoke English when our French let us down! Parking is a bit of a pain because you have to find a spot anywhere in the streets around the hotel which isn’t great. The breakfast is served in the only food/drink area- it also houses the small bar for drinks in the evening. It’s nicely decorated and the breakfast was good with lots of pastries, hot options such as eggs etc. The coffee machine is a little disappointing, would be nicer to have fresh coffee but all the Accor hotels we stayed in use the same machines! This room did tend to get rather warm and stuffy when we were there - a storm had blown through the night before but the winds were still very high so opening a window meant it blowed a gale indoors! So if there is air conditioning it didn’t seem to work. An easy walk to town and pleasant environment overall. We would stay here again with our fingers crossed for a good parking spot!
Golden Tulip Saint Malo - le Grand Be

We very much liked this hotel but want to warn others not to book a terrace room at an extortionate extra cost. We thought we would treat ourselves to the suite with the terrace - this was a big mistake. The suite and the hotel were lovely and I would stay again. The position is excellent as the hotel is very central yet tucked just away from the main noise of the town. The room was lovely - air conditioned, clean, spacious and quiet. The breakfast was good and the evening meal in the restaurant also very nice. The problem was the awful terrace which we had paid extra for. Whilst it was a good size it had absolutely no view - just of the high walls of other buildings which were a few metres away! I think the bins or kitchen doors were at the bottom. We went to the desk to complain and were told that as it was after 4pm we couldn't change rooms - the staff were not very interested. I asked whether all the terrace rooms had this view and was told yes!!! All terrace rooms were at the back of the hotel - looking at walls. I was appalled that the hotel is charging so such extra for these terraces - they really are just smoking areas (a very plain table and chairs were provided with an ash tray). If you look at the picture on the website it implies a pretty, airy terrace. Whilst I didn't expect to see the sea from my terrace - I did think the view might be better than a close up of some plain walls. I am very upset that we paid so much for this and want to warn others not to be tempted to book one!
