We chose this hotel as part of a package deal with BA. The location is great, the view from the room and service staff (bell hop, cleaning team etc) we're lovely. There were definitely more cons than pros for this place. We requested a replenishment of tea, creamer and sugar which never arrived. We ordered a $7 croissant which took 45mins to arrive and even after the $6 delivery charge and 15% the bill was $24?! We sent that back. We asked the reception for some advice on a travel ticket, which was wrong. The first day we decided to try breakfast at the hotel, I strongly recommend finding somewhere else. It was almost $100 for 2 classic breakfasts (toast, egg, bacon or sausage) and some OJ, not worth the money AT ALL. When we gave our feedback on checkout, the front of house was dismissive, unapologetic and we are leaving feeling disappointed with that service. Such a shame

I had a fantastic time at this hotel. I booked a fairmont exterior king room with a view. The room itself was nice but what I really liked was the walk in wardrobe and luxurious marble bathroom with his and hers sinks. Breakfast at the hotel and dinner in the Tonga room was also really good. Customer Service was top dollar. The only criticisms I would have are that:- 1) There was only one functioning lift from the main foyer to hotel rooms, 2) upon checking in a hold fee of $100 per night is placed on your debit/ credit card (only returnable 5-7 days after departure) and 3) some of the meals were overpriced, I was charged approx $55 for a medium sized pizza and bottle of water on one night. Overall, enjoyed my stay and would return.

My now husband and I chose to stay here for our wedding weekend, and we couldn't have chosen a more romantic and charming place. The hotel was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. We arrived (without warning) with several crates worth of wedding-related supplies, and their staff helped us bring it all up to our room. The rooms themselves are gorgeous and unique. Our room came with an amazing soaking tub that we enjoyed the morning of our wedding and best smelling toiletries we've ever found at a hotel. Despite the level of excitement we felt for our wedding we slept beautifully. The handsome writing desk was the perfect spot for us to write our thank you notes to our wedding vendors. Not sure why some reviews claim there isn't a breakfast? While the breakfast doesn't include hot items, the selection was great and of very high quality - fresh fruit, sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and we left happy and full. We look forward to returning for our anniversary someday!

average visit, maybe I expected more given their reputation. I visited SF for a two-day concert so I expected not to stay too much in my room anyways. Picked the Ritz primarily for the location. Also this was my first time staying under my own name so always wanted to get the welcome envelope with my name on it. (They misspelled it 😔) Booked via Amex’s FHR primarily for the early check-in at around noon and late checkout. I received an upgrade to a City View room but I must’ve arrived too early because my room was not really prepared. It had a few missing amenities like slippers, dental kits, combs etc. No welcome gifts other than chocolate. Only ate breakfast there but food is okay. Great portions though! Most of the time, I left the hotel at 10/11am and came back after midnight. One time no valet was there to pick up my car so had to call and request someone to pickup my car. Otherwise, all other services and staff were pleasant. The bedding and Frette linens were fantastic and it helped me sleep well. You also get a bottle of water EVERYTIME you pick up your car from the valet! I actually really like this since the only thing I could bring to the venue were sealed water bottles! Wifi was good, great for work and meetings. For a 5-star hotel, it wasn’t amazing compared to what I had heard. Might pass next time I’m in SF.

It is a clear and tidy hotel with no doubt. However, some of its staff were extremely rude. I went down to ask them if the hotel offered turndown services. The man starred at me then asked, in a highly disrespectful tone, “what do you mean by a turndown service?” Completely shocked that I would encounter such a question at a Nikko hotel, I could not say a word for like ten seconds while that man continued starring at me. How can I reason his behavior if not an intentional embarrassment?

I used to be a frequent guest at the W SF back when it was Starwood but had not visited since Marriott took over the W Brand. I did try and stay last year but before arriving I read that the restaurant was closed and I asked the hotel what they were doing as an alternative, but they had absolutely nothing for Platinum Breakfast (other than 1k points per stay which is a HUGE downgrade), so I opted for another hotel. I had high expectations for this stay as I had previously loved this hotel, but as a frequent traveler in Marriott brands and having one of their Highest Elite traveler statuses (and staying at W Brands lately), I knew service levels were still suffering post pandemic. Unfortunately, it started low right from the beginning. I had confirmed a Studio Suite in advance. When I arrived, I was given a corner room that almost seemed smaller than standard rooms (Room 2109). I inquired about upgrades to larger rooms, and I was told no, because it was a busy weekend, and nothing would be available. I checked on the app and saw that every room type was available for the length of my stay and beyond. I was basically DOWNGRADED. Once settling into the room, then I realized the major issues. Smaller rooms should be easier to clean, right? Well, this one not only had carpet stains, but I quickly found out that the ”Marriott Commitment to Clean” was actually a Commitment to Ignore. Not only were their stains on the carpet and dust and dirt in the windowsills, I found a previous guest's room keys sitting on the counter. Obviously, the room was just ”re-set” and not inspected or cleaned at all. I guess the promised sanitizing was out of the question. We then went to get some ice and noticed that the ice bucket was half filled with standing water. It was disgusting! Thats not the worst part, I then found a pair of women's ”play-style” lingerie slightly soiled sitting on the floor by the sofa. I mentioned the cleanliness issues to the Front Desk, but the representative simply stared at me and then asked if there was anything else I needed? I should have been a bit more insistent that they take it down, but I was so shocked I did not. The room setup, although smaller than what I wanted and pre-confirmed, was also not great. There is no storage at all other than the closet. There are no drawers at all or other places to keep clothes or anything else. If you have two suitcases, you are going to have to keep them out as there is no place to put them in the closet. Other than the Front Desk and Room Condition, we had a nice stay, although the Room is really what we paid for. The rest of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff were great, and the food was amazing! Kudos for them for sure! Actually, the only place I was every recognized or thanked for being a Marriott Elite was from the hostess at Breakfast. Great little hotel, has a 100 year old elevator which was really cool. Rooms are small as it's in the heart of downtown San Fran but if you're there to explore San Fran and only need a place to sleep and shower then this is the perfect spot.

I really wasn't sure how much I'd like my stay at this place, but overall it was a great experience. For reference, I stayed in the Janice Joplin room (Private bedroom with Private bathroom) The Good - Convenient - Within a 5 min walk to bus lines to get you to BART station. - Clean - No bugs, no bad smells, no mold. - Affordable - You really can't beat the price when most hotels are going for 200 a night that are a 5 minute walk away. - Neighborhood - Keep in mind this is San Fran, so while not ”clean” I never felt threatened or in danger nor was I ever bothered by the homeless folks around the area. Lots of food options, even late at night. - The Building - Really cool set up, you can literally spend an hour or two in the halls learning about the music history there. Really nice to have when the cleaning team is still in your room. There is a live rehearsal studio in the building so you can sometimes hear them playing. Very colorful and chill. - The Staff - Everyone that I interacted with was friendly. The cleaning crew was friendly and flexible to my needs and came back later when I asked. I did not have any issues with items or money I left out disappearing. Check In and Out - You can do it online to expedite the process! Makes it really smooth going in and out. The bad - The Shower - In my room, the shower was very small. Elbows out and I was hitting a wall in any direction. Not a huge deal, but it just means you aren't in it for long. - No Fan - I knew going into the stay that A/C isn't really used and is building controlled, but it would've been nice if there was a ceiling fan or some other option. Windows were able to be left open which was nice! - Noise - The ONLY complaint I have about noise is the shared bathroom that was next to mine. I could hear EVERYTHING happening in that bathroom, at the beginning I thought they were actually in my bathroom. There was some music during the day (you're in a music themed hotel so expect it), but everything was super quiet in the halls at night. No elevator - At least I didn't find one. And it's a looong ways up to the 200 level. The gentlemen at the front desk did help me take my bag up the second flight of stairs, but it's a haul with your stuff. Overall - I would definitely recommend a stay here in a Private Room. I can't attest to the shared space rooms, but it was quiet, affordable, and clean during my stay. If I come back to San Fran I would gladly stay here again.

I totally enjoyed my stay during a 4-days at this place. The location is super convenient, take 101/130/150 to go to Union square, walk a little bit and take 19 to go to Beach Road. If you are adventurous, you can actually walk to the Downtown. I had to check in early as my flight landed a bit advance. They allowed me to early check in at a nominal fee which is totally acceptable. Also the cityscape view from hotel is amazing! I felt the place is safer, all amenities provided (ironing bed, hangers, refrigerator, iron box, coffee and tea bags… so on). I would certainly stay here again and highly recommend checking this out. It took a long time to do it; I ordered a suite with a kitchen, all kinds of pots and utensils are complete, although the facilities are old, but it does not affect the use. There are many supermarkets around, life is convenient, and the hotel also has breakfast. The hotel is very quiet, but there are police cars or motorcycles whizzing by on the street every night, which has a slight impact on the quality of sleep. The overall feeling is more comfortable, and I will consider staying next time.

My travelling companion and I treated ourselves to a stay at their suite- with a separate entrance and patio. Choose that one. There is only one room above you and that will give you the best sleep. Both the happy hour and breakfast are at the hotel next door. The wine hour is great. The breakfast is continental and can use a bit more of a boost in its selection. Really great staff despite being short-handed.

We spent 4 nights in this hotel and everything was perfect! - position: central but quiet, few blocks from Union Sq, Chinatown etc - super clean - spacious and well organized - staff super kind We got a 2 bedroom apartment and it was very well equipped with a kitchenette (no stove but they kindly give you a skillet) . There’s no valet parking but one block always there’s a public parking. Only suggestion: free coffee in the lobby for all the guests not only the members.

The hotel can valet parking, but the price is very expensive. The hotel has been in business for more than 100 years. The elevator of the hotel is wooden doors with sliding doors, which is very interesting and full of European retro style. But it may be the deposition of years, not retro. Lobby has a free water bar with hot water, coffee, and juice. The room was clean and warm, and the location was good near Union Square. Although the hotel says it does not include breakfast, every morning there are long tables on each floor with simple juices, breads and fruits. The service attitude is also very good.

I stayed 3 nights in a female room, beds in a capsule style, a spacious and quiet room, a big locker, and it covered my bag, common bag and jacket. In every floor they have a lounge with TV, microwave, freezer, coffee and tea. The location is excellent, close to the market, public transport and tourist points at 20 minutes walk. I love and recommend!
