I have some very strong mixed feelings, and it pains me to give such a low rating, but the dorm room left much to be desired. Let me stress, I never saw the private rooms, so I have no option on them. The door rooms were dark, hot (no AC), dingy and stunk of sweaty backpackers. The doorway is partially low, and I smacked my head really hard on it. I was not the only one, another tall guy in the room did the same thing as I, so please be careful! There were only two bathrooms, which were often in use. I never had to wait too long, but regularly had to wait. One bathroom was clean and a good size, the other was quite small and squishy. Sadly I ended up using the smaller one. On the plus side, the lakeside views and “resort” feel was absolutely wonderful, with everything you’ll need. Were I to rate this hostel on everything except the dorm room, I would easily give it five out of five. I can see why it’s so popular with backpackers (and prior to sleeping, it was very enjoyable), and it was popular with me too, before I tried to sleep in the dorm. Would I stay here again? Yes, absolutely, but I’d stay in a private room.

We fell for the Instagram trap…it looks cool in photos and the location is really nice, but it’s all a front and really not very good at all. We’ll explain why… - Private rooms are tiny and don’t even include a bin or anywhere to store anything - Sleeping is very difficult as the private rooms are located underneath reception/bar so you hear every footstep which rocks the room… - And they play loud music right above the rooms (late into the night on weekdays when hardly anyone was there either too) - Dorm rooms are better located away from reception even though they are cheaper, such a weird layout - Only 2 toilets/showers for the whole hostel, and ofc the showers are cold plus one is full of flies - They say you can use the kitchen to cook your own food but when you try to cook the staff watch over you and it seemed we were an inconvenience being there, plus there was hardly any cutlery or bowls to use - The staff generally were miserable and unhelpful - Food isn’t overly expensive (half of it not actually available and only 1 vegetarian option of literally a plate of veg) but backpacking we can’t afford to eat out every meal so a shared kitchen should actually mean shared! - The floating bar they promote on insta wasn’t in operation (not sure if March is off season or not) but don’t promote it on Instagram if it’s no longer in use! - Anyway the kitchen was filthy and would be shutdown under hygiene standards - And if it was it would no doubt cost a lot, jet ski rental is $60 an hour! - Worse is the $5 an hour to play table pool, absolute rip-off that is - And guess what they advertise kayaks for rent online ($10 an hour again not cheap, should be for the day/included really) but again they don’t have them either - And the paddle board they have is broken but you still have to pay $5 an hour for it For $12 p/p per night you don’t expect much, but staff courtesy is one thing that annoys us and false advertising is another. An scam of a place and wish we’d booked elsewhere. DO NOT STAY HERE, worst place we have stayed in 5 months in Latin America. Absolute joke and we weren’t the only ones who thought this. A real shame because it could be really good it just needs a proper overhaul

Captain Morgan Hostel was a very fun place to stay. There are multiple bars, food available, a platform to jump off of into the Lake, a tiki bar boat that cruises along the coast, and jet skis and paddle boards available for rental. Views of the lake are incredibly beautiful. We only spent one day here unfortunately, but it was so much fun. We stayed in a private room, and it was spacious and clean. A bus goes by in the morning that will take you to El Congo, a good starting point for continuing your trip to other parts of the country. Everyone at the hostel was very friendly and helpful. To my knowledge, there was only one shower which can make for slight inconveniences.

Only two not-very-clean bathrooms, the kitchen is dirty, the food service is extremely slow and low quality, and the worst, is having to hear loud annoying music all day long until very late at night, don't let the Instagram stories foul you!

Great service and excellent staff. Danny was always on hand to help and made us feel welcome. It has good hostel vibes, and friends are easily made which becomes easier to plan climbing the volcano in a group. The shared bathrooms can become problematic when they get busy with day trippers. The place can get extremely windy, so make sure you have some layers for when it gets dark.

Sin duda, el peor servicio que he experimentado en años de viajar e ir a bares, restaurantes, etc. basically writing and placing the lowest rank of stars to complain about the worst service i ever experienced from a staff member more specifically the lady on the bar "Sónia" because we placed our order(2 juices and 2 waters )when the bar was empty and she didnt had nothin to prepare , she then ignored the order and the bar started getting multiple orders from other guests in which she immediately served inclusive some that look friends or at least knew her from previous orders ..Anyway we doublechecked twice for our order and inclusive handled money and well still no consideration from her side..only when we were very angry and upset she decided to rush with our order that by the way took her less then 3 mins to fix. She handle the drinks without a single gesture of being pleasant or at least a small apology instead she kept a closed face and she told us to go fix ourselves the payment in the other bar . For sure the worst service i ever experienced in years of travelling and going to bars/restaurants etc Básicamente, escribir y colocar el rango más bajo de estrellas para quejarme del peor servicio que he experimentado por parte de un miembro del personal, más específicamente de la señora del bar "Sónia", porque hicimos nuestro pedido (2 jugos y 2 aguas) cuando el bar estaba vacío y ella no tenía nada que preparar, luego ignoró el pedido y el bar comenzó a recibir múltiples pedidos de otros invitados en los que inmediatamente sirvió, incluidos algunos que parecían amigos o al menos la conocían de pedidos anteriores.
