Royal Hotel Sanremo

The Royal is a beautiful historic hotel with plenty of classic Riviera charm. We enjoyed our stay, although overall it didn’t quite reach the 5-star standard we’ve experienced at other hotels in this category. Service was a little hit-and-miss, and we would have expected a wider room service menu and more choice for dinner. The wellness area was pleasant but fairly simple, and the indoor pool was surprisingly cold. Breakfast was good, although the pigeons on the outdoor terrace were unfortunately a real issue and made what should have been a lovely breakfast outside much less enjoyable. The hotel has a very traditional, elegant Riviera atmosphere and clearly appeals to guests who appreciate a more formal, established style of luxury. We personally prefer luxury to feel a little more relaxed and contemporary, but that is very much a matter of taste. The absolute highlight is the spectacular outdoor seawater pool. It is beautiful, unique and gives the hotel something genuinely special. We absolutely loved spending time there — so much so that the pool alone would make us consider coming back. Overall, a hotel with history, character and a truly exceptional pool. We simply wish the service, dining and wellness offering had felt as special as the beautiful setting.
