Reykjanes Guesthouse

A good option to Keflavik. We were in room 1 - it was very large. Two sofas three bedrooms three bathrooms and a large kitchen. The warm air hit us as we walked in the door - very nice. No awful sprays or other bad odors. It was just what we needed including a washing machine to clean the baby clothes. I recommend staying here. It is a very practical and comfortable place. Papa’s pizzas and fish and chips is near and has good food. Other sights are close by and not busy.

Escape the average Reykjavik/Keflavik experience without losing convenient access to both. Loved this Guesthouse! Ultra-simple, fast, hassle free check-in. Helpful, attentive unobtrusive hosts. Nicely and economically appointed kitchen/common area and 3 separate, private, single baths in the “shared” space. The rooms were dark (visited 2 days after Summer solstice) and beds comfortable. Charming town (Grindavik) that happens to be the closest settlement to the Blue Lagoon (7-10 minute drive). Grindavik is on the coast with a lovely harbor and adjacent walking, biking, driving trail that includes a lighthouse and wrecked ship(s) “graveyard”. Travel the main route either 10 miles north or south of town and be treated to ocean cliffs, lighthouses, stunning vistas, lava fields, free range goats, movie (Eurovision) locations and more while still being half-hour out of Reykjavik or the airport. Fair and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Interesting property convesion to a guesthouse, but it works. Worked great for a family of 5.

Spacious but basic converted commercial space This guesthouse is in a converted storefront, which means it has a lot of space, which is great, but is also a bit awkward (for example, the the massive open shower in one of the bathrooms) and rather shabby (e.g. broken drawer in the kitchen, holes in the bedsheets). It was rather disappointing for the relatively high price and the owners/management are hard to get a response from about questions. It is in easy reach of the airport and the Blue Lagoon, but the town of Grindavik itself is rather gritty.

Basic but adequate The place is clean and adequate for a one night stay before heading to the airport. Communication is all done through email and the hosts seemed nice and respond quickly, but you will never see them and they are not present at the hotel. The hotel is listed with 3 stars. Personally, I think that's a little generous. There was body wash and shampoo in only one of the three shared bathrooms. The pillows were so lumpy and should absolutely be replaced. Instructions are left indicating to put your towels in the laundry basket and to wash/dry/put away any dishes that were used during your stay. It had the feel of a hostel rather than a hotel. Maybe this is normal for Iceland, but I think future guests should be aware when booking.
