Jufa Hotel Stift Gurk

The hotel itself has a very charming and atmospheric feel, but unfortunately the service was terrible. We arrived at 7 PM and were told we couldn’t eat at the restaurant, even though there were clearly empty tables. The staff claimed everything was fully booked. We then tried to order something from the bar, but the woman there told us they were too busy and wouldn’t be able to prepare any food for us. She directed us to a restaurant located in a castle about 10 minutes away by car. Since we were traveling with children, my husband had to drive there, place the order, and bring the food back. When I asked if we could get some cutlery and eat at one of the tables, she said absolutely not – we weren’t allowed to eat our own food on the premises. She actually suggested we eat in the park, presumably on the grass. It was a truly embarrassing experience, and we definitely won’t be coming back.

We recently stayed at the JUFA Hotel Stift Gurk as part of our adventure to see the F1 Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring Spielberg. Closer hotels were sold out so we settled in at the Hotel Stift Gurk. The hotel is located in the sleepy town of Gurk. An old church complex that found a second calling. As part of the complex one will find the beautiful Dom of Gurk, which still welcomes its parishioners. The area is very quiet and relaxing. The hotel is nice and clean, breakfast service was authentic Austrian, which we found charming and filling. The room was spacious for the four of us and clean. Renovations maintained the charm of an old monastery while upgrading the rooms to modern times. In the back of the hotel is a large garden and play ground for kids to climb and zip line around. The hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English. A lovely place for those who seek peace and relaxation and who love to hike, bike and explore. While we did not eat much in the area due to our focus on the F1 Grand Prix about 45 miles away, we found the local Wirtshaeuser authentic and delicicious. I wholeheartedly recommend this retreat to anyone seeking relaxation and an authentic Carinthian experience.
