The hotel is very well located and has a very good buffet. The animation and workers are very helpful. The hotel is a little old but it is very good

This was a couples holiday for my wife and myself booked approximately 2 weeks before the date of travel (21-04-25). We got a taxi from the airport €25, arrived at the hotel with no room available for over 90 minutes while other guests arriving from Germany went straight to their allocated rooms! The room looked tired with a massive crack in the shower tray, squished mosquitoes in the bathroom and the AC totally unadjustable set by the hotel at 23C. The maid never locked the patio door everyday and we were on the ground floor! Also the height of the safe was so low that it was more suitable for a dwarf to use. Pool area looked lovely but the sun loungers were looking very tired (photo included), also dangerous with more than one guest needing medical treatment including my wife from the sharp edges on them. Swarms of mosquitoes plagued the pool area with nearly everyone getting bitten multiple times it also looked like the hotel was not doing anything about this! There was a restaurant next to the pool which was also the Steak House in the evening, again lots of mosquitoes, so we were advised not to eat there. Children being allowed to play ball games right next to the swim up bar was disappointing and no lifeguards there to impose any pool area rules. The food in the other restaurants was nice and easy to book using the RIU app, entertainment was endurable. This is our 6th stay at a RIU hotel and the only one where a manager was never visible to guests at anytime. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone based on our recent experience, this is my own opinion and I have not been influenced by anything other than our recent stay. The food

Was a little worried after reading some reviews but there was no need. Hotel was exactly as described and expected. Stayed at Karamboa in Boa Vista before and this hotel very similar but a little less grand which is expected as a 4 plus rating rather than 5. Yes it could do with updating but the hotel and rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Food was good & lots of choice and good selection of drinks. Staff work extremely hard and very friendly. Definitely recommend

After a bit of a wobbly start regarding our suite not being ready the Funana redeemed itself. The Funana has very traditional decor which adds to its charm. We felt like we were in an Agatha Chrisie set. All the staff work hard and always have a smile. The food was good albeit in some cases a bit bland but we understand they have to cater for eveyones tastes but there is always salt. The restaurants you book into are a must, really good but book early as they do get booked up. Our daughter is Gluten free and the hotel were really accommodating and offered to make pancakes for breakfast and pizza and pasta were available; also they had gluten free breads and biscuits and even offered to make her cake. We were quite nervous about the reviews regarding tummy upsets but we made sure we used bottled water even for brushing our teeth and we were all fine. The only thing that I struggled with were the mosquitos but that's not the hotels fault. Please take sprays with you but saying that I used Jungle Spray and still got bites. Definitely go out and explore and visit the beach, it's beautiful, there are vendors trying to sell trips but as long as you are polite and just say ,"no thank you" the vendors will leave you alone 🙂

Still here but writing before we leave so I don’t forget :) We stayed at the RIU Funana in November 2024 for 11 nights in total. We have really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back! The staff are incredible and nothing was ever too much for them. Having the Tui rep on site has also been handy at times although we didn’t book anything with them. We did 2 excursions including an island tour which was booked through Prince who you will meet on your way to the beach and another which was the buggy tour that we booked through get your guide - people who had booked through TUI were on our excursion so they definitely use the same company and attend the same sessions as those who booked elsewhere. Some of our favourite things about the hotel were the staff at the restaurants and bars, the housekeeping was done to a high standard every day, the pool area, the different restaurants and without a doubt the animation team! The animation team are working all day to keep everyone entertained and bring amazing energy to everything they do. We attended both the neon party and the white party and both were amazing! The effort that goes into these parties and the decoration of the stage area is something to be appreciated. There is a well hidden sports bar that is open 24/7. It is quite cool (temperature) in there and also quieter so easier to get a drink than in some of the other bars. It is at the back of the stage area down the left side of the bar that is visible. Food - we had absolutely no issues with food at all. My partner is 27 with the tastebuds of a 4 year old and was still able to eat well during breakfast, lunch and dinner. The mambana restaurant does appear to attract flies more than the others so this is something to be aware of but sadly not much they can do about this. There was a satisfaction survey conducted by management during our stay and I suggested that they could cover the food with lids to prevent flies, hopefully this is something that will be implemented in the near future. Me and my partner did get upset stomachs for maybe a day and a half but we think this is more to do with food we ate out on a tour and also to do with the heat, eating more and drinking fizzy drinks non stop. I have absolutely no concerns that this was caused by the hotel as we have done 10 nights at the time of writing this and we have been fine the rest of the time. But again, upset stomachs can happen anywhere when you combine buffets, all inclusive bar and heat. If I was being picky, the only thing I would change about the hotel is the location. We went out of the hotel to Algodoeiro Beach (where the Tui and Melia are located) and found this to be a much better area in terms of the beach access so if this is a big thing for you, I would consider one of the Melia or Tui hotels. My main issue was the hassling we got on our way to the beach by locals trying to sell tours. We understand they need to make a living but it was constant which ma

First room was rotten....not fit for a dog. Special holiday 5 star. Really. Second room slightly better.... Do not stay Block 8. Food is good Lady in pool bar is exceptional.....smile and happy all day every day...what a star. Kennedy....is a joke argumentative. Witnessed at least 5 clashes and mine as well. Rude rude rude. Dont let your daughters go to the bar alone. Now they have introduced a crazy rule that you can not sit on a longer before 09:00 I have for the past 35 years sat at the poolside on whatever holiday and gained aittle more sun. My peacefull place. Now they have just created a cavalry charge at 9. Bonkers. This is a 5 star hotel with 3 star service delivery. Its a shame as we have stayed in Riu all over the globe....the brand normally speaks for itself. I as I am sure you....do not want ro be told what to do when....

Worst Riu in the company Ruined by poor rooms and a poor Bar manager.🤔 Generally the food is very good as always repetitive but thats everysingle AI. FOOD IS GOOD QUALITY 😀 Stands chewing gum watching the girls. 🙄 Dont let your kids go to the bar unaccompanied.😬 NOW YOU HAVE TO STAND IN LINE TO ACCESS THE POOL. I THOUGHT I WAS ON HOLIDAY NOT SCHOOL. POOR POOR MANAGEMENT DECISION. AT 8.57 I WITNESSED A LADY TRYING TO EXCHANGE HER TOWELS AT THE POOL. WHILST IT WASNT 09.00... SHE EXPLAINED SHE WAS GOING IN A TRIIP. THE TOWEL BOY JUST GRUNTED AND SAID NO. Pool closed for a whole day due to a floater.....not sure why it had to be closed all day if the pool sanitation system is working properly. However suggest not the amount of chlorine they hand dosed into the pool. People were getting out the pool bleached 🤣 Customer is not the focus of this Hotel. Shame as this hotel has lots of potential
