I've visited many ryokans in various regions, but this is the first time I've encountered such a clean and convenient accommodation. Every little detail is thoughtfully designed with the guest in mind.

Overall, my stay was very pleasant. The staff were particularly friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. The room was well-equipped, clean, and the environment was quite comfortable and inviting. However, there were a few areas that fell short of expectations: **Lounge Experience Needs Improvement:** The snacks and drinks offered in the lounge were mostly commercially packaged items, lacking local flavor. As a five-star hotel, we had anticipated exquisite handcrafted pastries and beverages that incorporated Hokkaido or local characteristics, rather than items easily found in a convenience store. **Dining Quality Could Be Enhanced:** The included breakfast and dinner were acceptable, but generally unremarkable. They didn't quite meet the standards and unique features expected of an "Asia's Top 100 Hot Spring Hotels." Considering the room rate and brand positioning, I believe the stay would be even more perfect if improvements could be made in the dining details and integration of local characteristics.

Staying at one of Asia's Top 100 Hot Springs for $800, Yet the Kaiseki Left Me Hungry When I came to Jozankei, Hokkaido, for a hot spring experience, I specifically chose Chalet Ivy Jozankei, which was listed among the top 100 hot spring hotels in Asia on Trip.com. To be honest, I came here specifically for their Kaiseki cuisine, with high expectations. For nearly $800 a night, I thought I'd get a high-quality Kaiseki experience, but it turned out... 1. **Insufficient portions:** After finishing the entire Kaiseki meal, my stomach was still empty. Even as a woman, I wasn't full. 2. **Mediocre ingredient quality:** The crab legs were tough and completely lacked any sweet, fresh flavor; they tasted like frozen goods. One dish had only a piece of radish slightly larger than a mahjong tile, and another was just a piece of eggplant. The radish was also tough, and I couldn't taste the natural sweetness of the ingredients. 3. **Grilled fish added after feedback was also disappointing:** After I reported the issue to the hotel manager, he provided us with four additional pieces of grilled fish. However, the added fish also had a tough texture and lacked flavor! The next day's breakfast was a bit better; at least it was filling. I suspect perhaps adjustments were made after my complaint the previous night... However, the chicken and fish in the breakfast were still mostly frozen ingredients, lacking the natural sweet freshness of fresh produce. It merely satisfied basic hunger... I objectively admit that the hotel's facilities, private hot springs, and mountain views are indeed beautiful. But to pay such a high price, drawn by the hotel's reputation on the list of Asia's top 100 hot spring hotels, my core expectation was high-quality dining... After experiencing both dinner and breakfast, I felt that the reputation was somewhat undeserved, and the value for money was very low. I will not come back to this hotel, nor do I trust the ranking of Asia's top 100 hot spring hotels anymore... Exquisiteness should not equate to perfunctory service, and Kaiseki should not be synonymous with leaving you hungry!

Our stay at Chalet Ivy Jozankei was truly memorable and one of the best luxury hotel experiences we have had in Japan. The hotel is beautifully designed, impeccably maintained, and the hospitality from most of the staff was exceptional. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely lady at reception (whose name I unfortunately did not catch), who shared that she personally grows the beautiful flowers displayed in the hotel's sitting area. That personal touch immediately made us feel at home. Mr. Tai, who checked us in, was friendly, patient, courteous and professional. He took the time to explain the room features and hotel facilities in detail, making us feel genuinely welcomed. The cleanliness deserves special recognition. I am particularly sensitive to cleanliness and usually notice dust very easily, yet I could not find a single speck of dirt anywhere in the room. It is honestly one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. The lounge was another highlight. Each guest received a ¥1,000 alcoholic drink credit, and the complimentary snacks featured premium Hokkaido brands such as LeTAO, Yoshimi and Ryugetsu, making the experience feel truly luxurious. Dinner was outstanding. Every course was beautifully presented and delicious, while the restaurant staff provided attentive and polished service. The hotel's tasteful interior perfectly complemented the stunning views of the lush greenery and Toyohira River. We were also delighted to find beautifully cut and chilled melon and strawberries waiting in our room upon arrival. It was a thoughtful welcome that reflected the hotel's exceptional attention to detail. Breakfast was equally impressive, with beautifully prepared dishes that made each morning enjoyable. The private onsen in our room was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our stay, allowing us to relax while enjoying the peaceful natural surroundings. While our overall experience was excellent, I have a few suggestions for improvement. One Japanese male staff member who was on duty during check-in and later that evening came across as rather cold. On several occasions, I smiled and greeted him, but he did not acknowledge me and simply walked away. The contrast with the warmth shown by the rest of the team was quite noticeable. As such a premium property, it would also be wonderful if the hotel could offer more cultural or wellness activities, such as tea appreciation sessions, guided evening walks or seasonal experiences. During a previous stay at Capella Singapore, these activities became some of the most memorable parts of our visit, and I believe Chalet Ivy Jozankei has the perfect setting to offer something similar. I would also like to suggest a different restaurant seating arrangement for tables of four. Currently, only two guests can enjoy the beautiful river and greenery views while the other two face the interior of the restaurant. Arranging the tables perpendicular to the windows would allow all four guests to enjoy the spectacular scenery during their meal. Lastly, although we appreciated receiving tickets to the Summer Night Illumination Festival, accessing the main street requires walking up a very steep slope that is shared with vehicles, which could be challenging and potentially unsafe for elderly guests. In the future, perhaps a pedestrian bridge connecting Level 5 directly to the street level could improve accessibility and safety. Overall, Chalet Ivy Jozankei delivered an exceptional luxury experience with outstanding cleanliness, thoughtful hospitality, remarkable cuisine and beautiful surroundings. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return in the future. Thank you to the entire team for making our visit so memorable.

First off, Ivy's ambiance is subtly pleasant and very comfortable. The service, I found, was just right. The way staff would nod and smile every time I entered, that subtle presence of 'we're here if you need us' felt really good. Almost all facilities have no time limits (except for the sauna which closes at midnight), so no need to rush for showers or the gym. It's perfect for night owls to quietly explore the hotel at any time! The lounge always has replenished snacks and drinks, and public spaces are always tidied up. Of course, this assumes everyone helps maintain a quiet atmosphere. The room layout was smooth, quiet, and conducive to good sleep. The air conditioning and all other facilities were noise-free. The flowing private hot spring was the best white noise for falling asleep. The room lighting was also perfectly designed! I really slept well, so checking out at 11 am was a bit difficult. It would be perfect if check-out could be at 12 pm! Even in summer, it's not boring at all. Although the Summer Lantern Festival isn't a huge event, it's still interesting! At least it's great for photos! I'd honestly love to come back in winter to experience the incredible snowy scenery! There are two young men who speak Chinese, and they are both very nice, so language communication isn't much of a worry. Friends who have stayed here also said Ivy was a pleasant surprise, a place that feels like home during their travels. However, to be honest, the dining was neither particularly good nor bad; nothing surprising there. My review might be subjective, but I genuinely love Ivy.
