"I’ll start with the good— Margherita. What a wonderful person and host. She went out of her way to help us with the issues we encountered and was just so kind and warm. I feel badly to say anything negative because she was so helpful, but these points are important to share. This hotel shouldn’t have a four star rating. It is very basic. Our room was quite run down, very small, worn furniture, dark bathroom with a very weird shower. But— The biggest issue is the parking. There simply isn’t any. The nearby lot is always full, and the street parking is impossible. I’d suggest not booking here if you are driving. The location is good for restaurants and access to town. And breakfast was good."

"The hotel complex is located on a hillside on the edge of Sampieri with the beach and hotel's café located a 20 minute walk down a lane. Reception, restaurant, bar , shop and other facilities including a conference room and beauty room are at the top of the site with the 11 accommodation blocks in the spacious well maintained grounds further down the hill along with tennis court, paddle ball courts and a fitness area. There is a large swimming pool and sun terrace immediately below the reception block. Electric buggies are available to drive guests around the grounds with a regular 15 minute service to and from the beach. Cars can be rented directly at the hotel and may be booked in advance of arrival on site. Rooms in the accommodation blocks are on 2 or 3 levels each with own terrace or balcony, and are spacious. The restaurant has meals on a buffet basis; choice, quality and quantity of local food are excellent. Service throughout is first class, the staff charming and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. Cleanliness everywhere is excellent. Being remote from any roads, the entire site is peaceful, the atmosphere added to by the many trees throughout. We stayed for a week in early May, the hotel was quiet and all of the staff made us feel most welcome. With no hesitation, we can say that this hotel is an ideal place to stay for visiting the beautiful Val di Noto area of south-east Sicily, and we would happily stay there again. Pietra d'Acqua Natural Retreat and Spa Resort by Geocharme ★★★★

"The pool presented on the website is misleadingly photographed from above to enhance the optical effect; in reality, it's narrow with little space for sun loungers. There's no supervision, with foreign tourists bringing dogs despite prohibitions and walking barefoot throughout the facility before directly entering the water. Sun loungers by the pool are systematically occupied with backpacks and towels left on them. The website states pets are allowed, but upon arrival, we were told the dog couldn't be in common areas. We were charged an additional 20 euros per day plus a 20 euro final cleaning fee, totaling an extra 80 euros, just to have to confine our dog to the room for 3 days since it couldn't be taken anywhere... while others did as they pleased. The breakfast was good, but lunch was nothing short of terrible. 50 euros for a plate of overcooked paccheri (8 pieces) with ragu and a Caesar salad with only 4 lettuce leaves and 4 inedible chicken scraps that even our dog turned its nose up at. The website advertises parking, but in reality, there's an outdoor area that's always full and unlit, requiring a flashlight to navigate in the evening. Of course, I ended up having to park my 50,000 euro car on the street under the sun. At the entrance, there's a slippery ramp where you risk breaking a bone every time the gate opens. One afternoon, there was even no water! For 250 euros a day in Dubai, I've stayed in hotels where nothing was lacking – Olympic-sized pools, free spas, and much more. Here, they asked for an additional 30 euros for a tub they called a spa. The bathroom had no windows and excessively soft lighting with no intensity adjustment, so ultimately, for the sake of ambiance, you couldn't see anything. The same problem occurred in the evening outside the building with dim lights, forcing us to use a flashlight to see where we were walking. I could go on with an endless list of negatives, but I don't have any more time to waste... 250 Euros a day isn't even worth 25!"

Bed & Breakfast Scicli ★★★

"B&B Scicli is a lovely place to stay; situated up a typical Sicilian stone staircase street, (there are quite a few steps to get there!), but host Massimo will be there to meet you and carry your bags up the stairs! The apartments are tucked away in a pretty courtyard, full of plants and flowers, and are spotlessly clean and comfortably appointed. From the top of the staircase, there is a tantalising glimpse of Scicli, looking out over picturesque rooftops. But the best bit about B&B Scicli is Massimo, who could not be a friendlier or more obliging host. He is always contactable to answer questions, provide information or sort out any problem. Massimo goes out of his way to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, recommending restaurants, the best beaches and how to get there, and all the things you must see and do on your visit to Scicli. Thanks to Massimo, we have returned to Scicli many times and consider it a second home!"
