Property Description
In the prestigious seaside village of Scopello, which overlooks the Faraglioni rock-stacks and the ancient Tonnara 300, yards below, this elegant hotel is also close to the enchanting Nature reserve of Lo Zingaro.
The hotel is well located for visiting the most important cultural sites in the area: Segesta; Erice; Egadi Islands; Trapani; Palermo (Monreale); and Selinunte are all within an hour’s drive. The hotel also offers the possibility of excursions and boat trips, and the chance to dove on the wonderful natural coast line near Scopello.
The hotel opened in 1969 but was originally founded in the early 1700’s, on the site of an earlier Arab castle. Carefully restored, this family-run hotel maintains the traditions of hospitality and fine regional cooking.

We came here on a friend’s recommendation and did not regret it. Once we figured out how to find it (Don’t follow your GPS directions into the village square! Instead follow the signs to go around to the secure gated parking lot and then call the hotel for the entry code), we arrived at a most beautiful room built out of rock walls and ancient ruins. Our “room” included our own private patio with loungers and a bistro set surrounded by plants and flowers. The sea views from our room and the infinity pool were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the igloo-encapsulated outdoor hot tub one afternoon and were excited to find an outdoor ping pong table nestled in the shade of ancient olive trees and roses. There were hundreds of varieties of plants and flowers all over the grounds that kept us pausing to investigate. The staff and owners were helpful, friendly and always willing to chat with us visiting Americans about the history of the area. The breakfast that was included offered a multitude of choices. Fresh pastries, fresh squeezed juice, cappuccino, and tables of meats, cheeses, fruit and other special treats were put out daily. The village was small but just walking distance from our room and offered several restaurant choices and a bit of shopping. There’s lots to do within an hour or two of the hotel so rent a car. It is a great location for a quiet and relaxing vacation in Sicily.

This is an elegant, romantic family-run hotel located right in the middle of the little town of Scopello. IGNORE the reviews complaining about the parking being far away or the lack of an elevator, so ridiculous, these people should book Dubai as their next destination! This is a classic family run hotel consisting of old buildings being part of an old village, that is part of the amazing experience staying here! From the moment you check-in and throughout your stay the staff is very friendly and welcoming. You can park your car close to the hotel to offload your luggage and then park it at a private carpark within a few minutes walk. The grounds and the garden of this hotel are magnificent with it’s beautiful pool and amazing view over the bay. The garden and the outside hotel bar outside are a perfect destination to relax all day and have a very nice lunch overlooking the bay. Stay here during your stay in Scopello! The rooms are very big and have absolutely all you could possibly need during your stay. We had a room with a jacuzzi in the room, this added to our romantic experience. It is very quiet at night and the bed is very comfortable. The airco was very well positioned. Within a very short walking distance of the nice town square with the restaurants, bars and terraces and you can walk from here up to Scopello Tower and the Tonnara. The breakfast buffet was very extensive and delicious. Every day fresh pastries and all sorts of Italian delicacies. The bar/restaurant in the garden serves very nice Italian lunch dishes and serves great cocktails. The only small annoying point, nothing the hotel can do about it, Scopello and also this hotel attracts many Americans (the loud and obnoxious ones) who suddenly feel their Italian roots and swap this village as if they own the place, they are mainly there for the overrated Tonnara where there are many American weddings held. Just ignore them and you will have an amazing stay here!

This is a truly stunning hotel with magnificent views down the coastline and lovely grounds with a pool bar area that you can sit and take in the magnificent scenery and enjoy a drink . Peace and serenity could have stayed for a month . An easy walk into the reserve or to the many beautiful beaches . Rooms are spacious well laid out comfy bed . Staff are super friendly and helpful . We ate in the restaurant one night which was excellent as was the buffet breakfast . Thanks for a memorable stay .

Due to unforeseen matters, a couple, for whom I made reservations, is unable to attend our family gathering in September. I understand the cancellation policy of this hotel, but thought certainly the hotel would find reasonable my offer to have them keep my 2-night deposit (660 euros) in exchange for only one night of our 4-night reservation. (Effectively paying 2x rate for one night). Bear in mind, we are 4 weeks out from this event. The hotel surprisingly found my offer unreasonable and has kept my ~$730 deposit in exchange for nothing. And then oddly, they threatened 'legal action' if I put out a negative public review. Buyer beware - not very customer friendly.

The La Tavernetta is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. With breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve this creates a feeling of relaxation and excitement. The staff is incredibly caring and will do anything and everything to make sure you are having a good time. At times it is challenging to communicate with the staff but for the most part they find a way to understand you. If you ever have a problem with a translation issue, Vito is one of the managers who works at the hotel and speaks very good english. He would be more than happy to help you. He is always running around but he spends most of his time managing the bar. The food is delicious and their head chef Antonio has studied and worked in Dubai and Japan. I had the pleasure of meeting him after telling the waiter how much I enjoyed my meal. Antonio doesnt speak English but Vito stepped in and translated my compliments to the chef. The restaurant is open for Breakfast and Dinner. All the food is fresh and prepared on the same day. The location of the hotel is in a great place for people who just want to chill by the pool and unwind. Also it is close to many beautiful beaches, especially the famous Tonnara di Scopello which used to be an old tuna factory that is now converted into an event venue. Another beach that I really enjoyed was Cala Mazzo di Sciacca. Also if you're someone who likes to hike you can go to the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve and it has countless private beaches that you can enjoy. If you get tired of just relaxing all day you can travel to Palermo which is about an hour and a half away by car. Also the La Tavernetta is close to San Vito Lo Capo, a beautiful sandy beach town and Marsala which is famous for its sweet wines and salt fields. There are so many beautiful places to travel and see in Sicily but the small town of Scopello is truly one of a kind and why it is always busy during the summer months. If you have the chance to ever go to Sicily you will not regret staying at the La Tavernetta.

Having been visiting this family run hotel for 9 years after finding it by pure luck, I can honestly say it is getting better and better with each visit. The location, the small resort with the amazingly located pool and pool bar, the atmosphere, and the caring, and hard working family and staff make what is an already great retreat, even better.
