This was our first time in Gambia. The hotel was right on the beach and a perfect location. The staff were always smiling and happy. Always happy to help. The food was always fresh and had enough variety for everyone. A special thank you to Aisha who kept us smiling and entertained. Going to miss my water aerobics. To Milton for being so friendly and chatting to us about Gambia. To Amadou for making my fresh omelette every morning. They were the best. To Alex for always keeping our room clean and the special little touches he left us. To Ricki in guest relations for showing me around the newly renovated rooms. We had a beach bungalow which had plenty of room and all the amenities. Can highly recommend this hotel.

Great location, right on the beach. It's a 3.5 star hotel but really very nice and clean. It's very secure (entry gate to premises and guards on the accesses to the beach). This is good as there will always be chancers hanging around on the beach trying to entice you into all sorts of stuff! All inclusive deal when I went and the food is plentiful and actually very good. I had one of the bungalows which was absolutely fine but there are more modern and recently renovated rooms available in a new block. I came for the birding so was out very early every morning, and although my room was a few rows back, you can hear the nightly entertainment but it stops at 10pm so it's not bad. A variety of bands, drumming groups etc. The staff are fabulous. SO friendly and genuinely interested in you and the quality of your stay. Pools are clean and always being tended to. For me, the best bit was the most amazing Hady who works at the on premises STAR SPA. I had a series of three massages and I can honestly say she is the best masseuse I have ever used anywhere in the world (and I've used a few). I walk and carry photography gear for hours every day and she managed to completely unlock my neck and back. The guys who run it (Ahmed and Sacha) are so friendly too. Highly recommend booking yourself in there if you can. I didn't venture out for shopping or social life being a woman on my own, but the Gambian birding association is just by the hotel entrance and there are always very professional and knowledgeable guides there who will drive you right from there. There's so much to see away from the built up area. I'd definitely go back as it's low key, friendly, affordable, clean and good value.

We love this place it’s like home ! The staff are the best so friendly they make this hotel special .The new de lux rooms are lovely the standard rooms as we have warned before the bungalows rooms bathrooms are very tired but clean ) The food and service for an all inclusive is great waiter service around the pool ! Valentine’s night was exceptionally good with a lot of effort by the chefs and new restaurant manager Romeo Rania . Maybe not the best place if your really beachy as the river water can run along the rear of the hotel so not immediate access for sunbeds . so mainly repeat guests we see every year it’s small quite and very friendly with daily entertainment thank you team ahisa Lisa and Alfred special thanks for the table tennis miss you all until next year xxx

What can I say apart from Sunset Beach Hotel is my piece of paradise. All the staff go above and beyond. From the porters, front desk reception, gardeners, housekeeping, maintenance, security, bar and restaurant, pool attendant and entertainment all make you feel at home, nothing is too much trouble. You are made to feel as part of a big family. My room, service, food and drinks are exceptional for an Al. The location is fantastic and being a small hotel gives you the peace of being part of a community. Everyone is so friendly and at ease. No stress which means perfect paradise. Will be returning for my 4th time. Just ❤️ Sunset Beach Hotel

We returned home from 4 weeks at this delightful hotel on February 10th. Last year we visited for 2 weeks and enjoyed it so much we booked again but this time for 4 weeks. The staff are all amazing and go out of their way to be helpful. Our room boy Alex was really efficient and left us lovely flowers on our bed every day. Towels were always replaced when needed and room was very clean. The waiters in the restaurant were all very good - I cannot remember them all by name but Assam was always excellent. The chef Lamin was wonderful- made delicious soups amongst other things. He also went out of his way when I was ill to prepare food for me- that was much appreciated. Food was excellent. The pool boys were very good cleaning beds and getting umbrellas and also moving them when required.. There was never a problem getting a bed by the pool. The spa was wonderful and Ahmet was really helpful - particularly after I hurt my foot. The girls that did massages were excellent. We will definitely return next year.

Went for 2 weeks in Feb 25. Enjoyed it SO MUCH that we went back for 4 weeks in Jan/Feb 26. Wonderful staff who cannot do enough for you; hence, SO MANY happy returnees! Alex the roomboy, Assam the waiter, Lamin the chef and Ahmet in the Spa stood out for us as especially excellent! The bungalows are a wee bit tired but adequate and refurbishment is planned. And beware, the Kotu stream can change its course, at nature’s whim, but the beach always remains accessible. Already planning to return - very satisfied customers.

This was our second time staying at this hotel. We enjoyed it so much in 2025 decided to return for 2026. We were not disappointed I fact was a wonderful surprise to see our junior suite had had an upgrade (it did look a bit tired last year!) the upgrade was excellent. The cleanliness at hotel inside and outside is exceptional. All the staff are clean and tidy and are lovely to talk to. Restaurant staff and waiters are superb. Plenty of choice in restaurant which was always hot and fresh and always served with a smile! Never had a problem finding sunbeds and the pool attendants are always helpful. Our only complaint is with the music, was pleasant in the morning, but for some reason they changed the sound to loud and upped the tempo in the afternoon, when most people like a read or snooze. We did mention it on one occasion and for one day it altered, but then it was back to normal. I appreciate the staff are all young but the majority of customers are past there rave days!! Or so it seemed!! On saying all this we have already booked to go back in 2027!! Perhaps just take some ear plugs!!
