Shangri-La offers an overwhelming number of accommodation options. Before coming, I spent a long time choosing, browsing everything from international chains to various local guesthouses and B&Bs. I either couldn't stand the decor or found them uninspired, which wasn't quite right for a relaxing vacation. That is, until I saw this place. After repeated comparisons and deliberations, perhaps due to the decor, or the owner's thoughtful replies to guest reviews, or simply a gut feeling, I chose this one. I originally only booked one night, with two more nights planned near Napa Lake in Shangri-La. But upon arrival, my initial feeling was so strongly and overwhelmingly confirmed that I knew my choice was right. I immediately extended my stay for another night!
They call it a B&B, but I truly believe it's a small, beautiful, and warm hotel with taste and style, and most importantly, heart and soul. Just like its name, 'The Manor' (公馆), it's truly a 'manor' for every guest in the ancient town! Location: It's right by the ancient town, and you can see Guishan Park from the room. The owner drove us to the edge of the ancient town road, and a young female staff member came to greet us, immediately taking my rolling suitcase. I felt a bit embarrassed and tried to politely refuse multiple times, but she insisted. We walked less than twenty meters to the hotel. Decor: The overall style is French, with meticulous attention to detail, taste, and elegance evident in the floor tiles, wall tiles, decorative paintings, and lighting fixtures. The rooftop viewing platform is romantically spacious. Rooms: The diffused oxygen machine, projector, Bluetooth headphones, and toilet are all international brands and highly intelligent. The hairdryer is Dyson, and the paper products and beverages are all top-notch. The outdoor balcony is cozy and pleasant, and the soundproofing is excellent. Later, I learned from chatting with the owner that this hotel was designed by professionals from Tongji University, commissioned by a Shanghai owner. The custom-made tiles and other items, along with a full year of construction, show their dedication. With such thoughtful efforts, my sleep at this high altitude was greatly ensured and supported; my sleep quality over two nights was even better than in lowland areas.
Service: They anticipate your needs and do more than expected, thinking comprehensively and providing even more thoughtful service! From picking us up at the high-speed rail station, to the welcome afternoon tea, and the homemade breakfast (especially commendable for the owner's relatives from Anhui who insist on handcrafting high-pressure cooked pastries, rice noodles, and small dishes in such a high-altitude area), to the warm reminders about weather and road conditions before we left, and proactively asking about our dining needs upon our return – everything reflects their serious dedication and warm hospitality. This is truly what 'a home away from home' feels like! Especially noteworthy was the transport service. Although originally only one pick-up/drop-off was included, the owner proactively asked about our next itinerary and specially arranged to drive us to our next accommodation near Napa Lake. Even though it was only about ten kilometers, the next location was remote, making taxis difficult to find and ride-sharing challenging. After dropping us off, the Anhui-born brother simply said, 'Look how remote this place is. We know it's hard to get a car here. No matter how long you stay, if you have trouble getting a ride, just call us. If we're not too busy, we'll definitely come and pick you up!' Haha, can you feel it? It's that same 'aha!' feeling I had when choosing the hotel – I knew this was the one, the right feeling!
Highly recommended! I'll definitely stay here again next time!
