Kijani Hotel

Kijani Hotel

📍 Ocean Front, Shela
★★★ 9.3 (52 reviews)

"Kijani is an exceptional property, and my stay was truly memorable. The rooms are clean, spacious, and well maintained. The food—thoughtfully recommended by the friendly staff—was absolutely delicious. The restaurant, with its breathtaking sea view, offers a truly unique dining experience. I would like to extend special thanks to Brian and the lady whose name I forget (Kendi, Linda?)at reception, as well as Hinzano, Istafu, and Timothy at the restaurant, for their outstanding service and excellent food recommendations. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would gladly return."

The Majlis Resort

📍 Ras Kitau Bay - Manda Island, Shela
★★★★★ 8.8 (43 reviews)

"I had a wonderful stay at Majlis with my bestie. Majlis is a perfect blend of beauty, effortless luxury, cultural charm and exceptional customer service. The photos do it justice, but you have to be there to experience its magnificence. The atmosphere was calm, serene and relaxing making it a perfect spot to unwind; which is what we were looking for. The sunsets are gorgeous😍. The food is amazing and the portions generous. The true soul of Majlis is the staff. Their customer service is a chef's kiss to the whole experience. Heartfelt gratitude to the team that decorated our room on short notice. The personalized card was really thoughtful and sweet🥹; I appreciate it💕. Special thanks to Hamisi and Martins and the Umi restaurant team (we were always the last to leave Umi and you were always kind), Brian from Mediterranean restaurant, Alfred and Florence from Breeze restaurant (y'all had great recommendations during our dinners), Captain Baki who was our guide during Kayaking and was very patient with us, Samwel from Infinity pool who helped to take amazing photos and videos of us, Florence and Bonny from guest relations who were amazing and Wanjiru from reservations who was very helpful when I was making inquiries together with Mourine and Lawrence; they made the reservation process seamless."

Peponi Hotel

Peponi Hotel

📍 PW48+39F, Shela
★★★ 9.6 (49 reviews)

"I spent 4 nights in a superior room at the Peponi. The entire experience was amazing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is no AC in the rooms but the fans are strong and effective. The pool is refreshing for an afternoon dip. The food is probably the best hotel food I have ever had. The sushi, soft shell crab entree, and knickerbocker sundae are the stuff of dreams. The avocado toast on focaccia was a wonderful way to start the day. We never even considered venturing off campus for meals, it is that delicious. The Peponi Hotel is walking distance to the long stretch of Shela Beach where, and I will provide photos, we were typically the only people on it. The water was warm and there was no seaweed or sea urchins. I cannot wait to return. Special shoutout to Mustafa who made our entire stay so memorable."

The Majlis Resort ★★★★★
"Friends! If you are looking for a place to unwind, unplug, reset, make memories, heal, remember yourself, some sprinkling of all the above, I cannot recommend The Majlis Resort emphatically enough. Three generations of my family found a home here for a few nights and we couldn’t have had a better time if we tried. From the rooms, to the compound, to the amenities and activity offerings, everything was immaculately maintained, well-equipped and tastefully designed. And we ate like royalty! Most importantly, everyone was so pleasant, thoughtful and professional and met us with smiles and a gentle greeting or offer of help. I had such a serenely wonderful stay. Thank you Majlis!"

Peponi Hotel ★★★
"The Peponi is a family run hotel in Shella, close to Lamu Old Town, and I understand it is the second oldest hotel on Lamu Island. It combines plenty of old time charm with modern amenities. Transportation from the airport is by boat and is organized by the hotel. Rooms are individualized so that few rooms are alike. The hotel is located right on the shore with easy beach access. The hotel swimming pool is nice, and it is easy to combine staying in the pool area and going to the beach for a swim in the Indian Ocean. The hotel organizes several excursions. In addition to the unmissable Lamu Old Town, we also enjoyed an excursion to the mangroves and the Takwa ruins on Manda Island, which can be reached at high tide only. The hotel restaurant is excellent with a wide choice of fish and seafood but also meat. It is worth a separate review. The hotel is located close to the edge of Shella town, and it is therefore ideally located not only for swimming but also for long walks on the 12 kilometer pristine beach, which is particularly charming in the early morning and late afternoon. The hotel staff is very friendly and service oriented and will contribute to making your stay memorable. The co-owner, whose grandfather founded the hotel before her mother took it over, is very pleasant and service oriented. If we make it back to Lamu, the Peponi is definitely we will stay again. The hotel"
