Having visited the Mitre prior to the creation of the cadence I was extremely impressed with how nice it was to sit up on the bank, surrounded by well thought out planting and tables, overlooking the local area. Only negative was the piped music, which was a bit of an unwelcome intrusion into the peace of the English countryside.

We had arrived in the middle of lunch on Easter Sunday and the inn was very busy with a Sunday varvery. Steve, our host warmly welcomed us to the Inn and showed us to our room. The room was beautiful and a very comfortable bed. We went downstairs to ask fifty they could squeeze us in for a carvery and it was no problem. Carvery was delicious. Good nights with a hot shower in the morning. Then downstairs for a full English breakfast and toast. Have no problem recommending this friendly inn with its friendly staff.

I visited The Mitre Inn in Sandford Orcas a couple of weeks ago for a quick pub lunch following a walk with friends, and wow what a transformation. We arrived just as the pub opened and were greeted with a smile by a friendly waitress. It’s been a little while since I ventured down and it turns out the pub has had somewhat of a complete makeover. The pub now has a sophisticated, warm and charming feel about it. I opted for a baguette with brie and cranberry which came with chips and salad…no picture as I ate it too quickly as it was delicious! There is ample parking in the main and over flow car parks, the entrance is wheel chair friendly (no large steps to go up or down), plenty of seating with cosy corners, bar area with rustic seating which is in keeping for the area (think bar stools with vintage tractor seats), wide selection of food on the menu with lots of puddings, variety of beers/ciders/soft drinks/wines, two lovely large wood burners, outdoor seating in the beautiful garden area, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming along with plenty of locals who greet everyone with a smile. Would I go back yes, will I go back of course. 10/10 from start to finish. Thank you very much to all, we had a lovely afternoon!

A haven of peace in deepest Dorset Arrived in the dark on a bitterly cold misty February night. Despite the fact that Steve had only just got out of hospital after a hip operation and clearly in pain, he did everything possible to make me welcome and comfortable. Rooms recently completely refurbished, well-pointed and warm. Great land scaping projects in the garden ready for the summer to make wonderful sitting out areas. The quintessentially simple cosy affordable Dorset Inn, log fire. stone floor simple decor, gumboots and pub labrador. Perfection.

Iv stopped here a few times now and it's a lovely little quiet pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The owner Steve is a great host. The room are very clean and comfortable. The pub offers fantastic food, all homemade and the breakfast is one of the best iv had in any hotel. If your looking for a nice quiet place to stop for a few night in Dorset you must stay here.
