This holiday was a total 10/10. The entire stay was perfect. We have never visited Albania before and can see how it is growing as a tourist destination. The Melia resort is perfect. Clean, well maintained, good food choices and the staff were attentive and friendly. If you are thinking of booking - do it. The beach is sandy and stunning (with the best pina coladas!) and the pool area beautiful.

Would I recommend Albania 🤔 What’s good : 2 1/2 hrs away Hotel is clean , new , modern & lovely When the sun is out it’s lovely Staff at Hotel are so accommodating Food is nice It’s cheap ! The beach is lovely - it’s a private beach owned by the hotel. 4 nights is perfect amount of time to be here any longer would go stir crazy . Spa is lovely and costs 20€ per day which was quite reasonable . What’s not so good : There is a lot of building work going on everywhere ! Look to the left and right when sitting on the beach and you can see the building work & it not being fit for purpose . There is nothing to do in the hotel other than sunbathe and swim , so if you are a teen you will be bored important to know there is no TikTok if you have a teen ! The entertainment at night is very limited Not sure if this changes peak season . The food at the hotel restaurants ( only 2 ) was amazing and really reasonably priced ! The food at the all inclusive buffet dinner was disappointing and cold ! Luckily we didn’t have all inclusive but the day we did do the buffet we had to pay 30€ for the pleasure ! It wasn’t great ! Breakfast choices were good ! You have to book the restaurants by 4pm if you don’t , you won’t get a table and then all you have as an option is takeout pizza ( which was delicious) There is nothing to do outside of the hotel ! Nowhere to go ! Although we discovered a supermarket about 10 mins away ! We took a bus to the main town organised by the hotel , the town was awful was one big building site , there was nothing to do and it rained most of the day ! Not anyone’s fault Also the bus didn’t arrive to take us back So with no phone / data ( can’t use uk phone unless on wifi ) we were starting to get a bit anxious ! The people the hotel staff are so friendly and warm and helpful . Verdict: Within the next 5 years I can see Albania being a great holiday destination, just feels right now there is still a lot to do. We stayed near Durres which is near the capital and airport . Just in case you’re wondering - we did get back to the hotel and were offered free cocktails and the hotel couldn’t be more apologetic. Would I come back ? Yes in 5 years time .
