The hotel was immaculate and the room was attractive and comfortable.
The restaurant, Aurum, ruined our stay. We waited 30 minutes to even order drinks and had to chase up the order when it didn’t arrive. Drinks and starters arrived in dribs and drabs.
I am vegan and one of the two vegan starter options was unavailable.
I had mushroom risotto for my main which was underwhelming and I’ve made myself better risotto at home (I’m not a chef!).
Similarly at breakfast time, we sat for 25 minutes before my husband placed our breakfast orders directly with the kitchen. Eventually a waiter took our drink orders. My husband’s drink arrived 15 minutes later and mine 25 minutes later (I’d only ordered a cup of tea!).
Eventually our breakfasts arrived missing mushrooms (quite a main part of an English breakfast and listed on the menu). No one asked how our meal was so we didn’t get the opportunity to mention this until a waiter desperately tried to clear the table when my husband popped to the toilet. The waiter asked if we wanted the mushrooms but by that point we’d almost finished our breakfasts. The toast was I buttered and no butter provided and again, no opportunity to request this as there was only one waiter serving the restaurant and he was out of the room most of the time.
The couple on the table next to us were discussing leaving to eat elsewhere as they were also left waiting as if they were invisible. Service charge is included in all bills.
