"We chose this hotel because of its location directly across from Dal Lake, and we were genuinely excited about the stay. From the outside, it seemed like the perfect place to enjoy the beauty of Srinagar, and we arrived with very high expectations. Unfortunately, those expectations were shattered almost immediately. From the moment we entered, the staff was neither welcoming nor cooperative. We found several staff members to be rude, dismissive, and unwilling to help. Hospitality begins with how guests are treated, and sadly, that was missing throughout our stay. When we entered our room, it was not what we had paid for. While the room itself was acceptable, the advertised lake view was extremely disappointing. The “Dal Lake view” turned out to be a small window offering only a limited glimpse of the lake, whereas the room featured a large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the parking area beside the hotel. It felt misleading and certainly not worth the premium we paid. Later that day, my three-year-old son accidentally marked the quilt with a few water-based sketch pen stains. As parents, we immediately acknowledged the mistake and explained to him that such behavior is not acceptable. We informed housekeeping and requested that the room be cleaned while we stepped out. Upon our return, instead of being approached privately and professionally, we were stopped at the front desk and informed—in front of other guests—that we would have to pay for the damage. We fully expected to bear reasonable cleaning costs and had no issue doing so. However, we were shocked when we were asked to pay ₹1,000 for a few sketch pen marks. The stains were from water-based sketch pens and could likely have been removed with basic stain treatment and washing. Even professional dry cleaning of a quilt would not typically cost anywhere near ₹1,000. When I pointed this out, the staff became argumentative. Rather than discussing the matter respectfully, they responded with remarks such as, “You don’t know how to wash,” and even suggested that I take the quilt and clean it myself if I believed the stains could be removed. I was genuinely surprised to hear such comments from staff representing a hotel that claims to provide quality hospitality. To demonstrate my point, I even showed them how similar sketch pen marks could be removed from fabric. Yet the attitude remained unprofessional and confrontational. As if that wasn’t enough, later when I wanted to make tea, I discovered that the kettle provided in the room was dirty. The mouth of the kettle had visible grime and stains that did not come off even after washing. Cleanliness is one of the most basic expectations from any hotel, and this was extremely disappointing. Overall, this stay was far below expectations. Between the poor customer service, misleading room experience, public embarrassment over a minor issue, and cleanliness concerns, I cannot recommend this hotel.
