Tolarno Hotel Reviews

I was looking forward to staying at the Tolarno Hotel after reading about the artists and artwork on display. But the room I was given was so dirty, and the smell was dreadful. I've been travelling from Sydney to Melbourne over a matter of 10 days and stayed in small motels and rooms above pubs, and all were spotlessly clean, so I was so disappointed to arrive at my final destination and have to leave the hotel and request a refund for the nights that I'd booked. There were stains on practically everything, the carpet was badly stained and rotten in certain areas, the shower screen, walls, skirtings, etc, needed a good clean and were so unhygienic, the TV had a thick layer of dust on the screen, and the blinds, which were broken, were thick with dust. The manager was very approachable and understanding and explained that cleaners had been in to do a deep clean and to try and eradicate the awful smell in the room coming from the bathroom, but obviously they hadn't sorted it. I'm sure there are a few rooms that are ok because I've since read some of the reviews, but the room I was given was really awful. He offered me another room later that evening, which was slightly better but still very dirty, and the sheets had stains on them, it was so bad that I had to check out early. It's such a shame because it could be a great hotel if the rooms were cleaned thoroughly and refurbished.

I’m not sure whether is from the hotel, but my partner got bitten by bed bugs from the hotel and the hotel staff is extremely unprofessional knocking the door 15 mins before checking out. This is clearly not for the weak hearted. Unpleasant experience would never come back.

It was good for the price, although the hair dryer didn’t work and the window frames were dirty. The staff is very friendly and cosy.

Situated in an excellent location, close to restaurants bars and trams. Hotel had an original quirky style . Helpful and friendly staff on reception . Would stay again when in St Kilda area.

Perfect location in St Kilda. Tram stop nearby and affordable parking. Room is a good size for two people. Artworks are a plus.

Service was fantastic.it was super quick and easy to check in and out. Loved the art too.

it knows what it is, basic clean reasonable accommodation in a fantastic location. Not trying to be anything but it’s not. Old building of course could be done up but of course then all prices would go up equivalently so again and come back to the original point it’s simple basic accommodation that is useful when you need a quick night accommodation. Instructions were really good getting into the place late at night. The room was immaculately clean even if it was old. Overall would stay there if I needed accommodation for one night. I would suggest a touch expensive for what it is. 

Hotel is old. Room painting is peeling. The painting in the room is artistic but scary 😱.

Very good hotel in a great location

This was a very disappointing experience for my family. The worst part about this stay was the overwhelming smell of urine which nauseated us all overnight. The carpets were filthy but the flooring in the bathroom smelled so badly of urine that my kids were unable to use it. The shower was so full of mould that it felt unsafe for anyone to shower. Window furnishings were broken so we placed towels over them for privacy. Rain leaked in through the windows and onto the carpets which we walked through. R rated paintings throughout each room, one was named "******* gathering" or something similar so you can only imagine what this might have been like. This was very confronting for my young children and upsetting for me as I had nothing large enough to cover them with. I'm so put off booking online via this website as the photos are INCREDIBLY deceiving. This property was nothing like it was advertised.

Very artistic hotel design but facilities are old. The location is 30mins tram away from main city which is acceptable and not too crowded. But it’s not in free tram zone.The staffs are very nice and helpful.

it's old and dirty, we booked a room with a balcony but staff not even clean the chairs there, full of dust. some dirt on the wall and doors, can easily wipe with water and towel but they didn't bother to spend few mins to clean. the staff only helped u to bring the luggage upstairs if you ask. location is ok, close to tram but a bit far from cbd transportation is very expensive in Melbourne.

Great location and very friendly helpful staff. Clean modern and comfortable room. Would recommend
