November Birthday break November 2024 Stayed 3 nights in November Monday to Thursday as a couple for my birthday. Lodge was spotlessly clean, warm and ideally situated as a base to explore nearby towns. The lodge had everything we needed for our stay, cooking facilities, all crockery, utensils, could have done with some scissors for opening food packaging, pots and pans, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge/freezer, electric oven/hob, Kim even provides bathroom towels, toilet roll, kitchen towel, cloth, cleaning sprays, fairy liquid. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed, we slept well, all clean bedding provided, wardrobe and plenty of drawer space enough for all our clothing. Could have done with a mirror on the chest of drawers for us ladies to do our hair as there was a plug close by for hairdryer/ straighteners, as obviously no plugs allowed in the bathroom. The shower was powerful and hot. We managed to operate the TV and radiators with clear instructions left by Kim. The site was quiet, when we stayed the weather was snowy on the main roads to Whitby 11 miles away, we found a large Asda, Home bargains, B&M, Aldi, all in one place at Skelton 6 mile away. Staithes is a pretty village, all parking is at the top of the hill and was free November to March, quite a steep walk down and we needed a rest on the way back up. We drove to Whitby a couple of times had fish & chips at the Magpie restaurant which were lovely. Called off at Scarborough on our way home which was a picture with all the snow on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Kim was a great host. Read less Tip: Try arrive in daylight , look for the church on your right then the park has a small sign which left straight after. Kim is on site

We booked a last minute stay at Woodland Lodge. The lodge was immaculately clean and well equipped. The wifi was good. A bit of feedback for the owner they need to define which parking space is for each chalet - as we had someone park in our space the whole stay.

Just enjoyed a 4 night Monday - Friday stay. As a couple we both have individual mobility issues but Pheasant Lodge was fine. Just 1 small step into the lodge and one into the shower. We knew the site was down a steep hill but as we need to use the car for even flat terrain, it didn’t matter to us but the walk up is not for the unfit or faint hearted! The site has a bit of a time warp appearance and I was glad that I was aware beforehand that the lodge next door was a bit of a building site! None of that matters once you’re in the lodge or out on the secluded sun trap rear patio. Pheasant Lodge was spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped with matching crockery, glasses etc. It is obviously well cared for and Kim has thoughtfully provided items sometimes overlooked. WiFi was included and was fine for what I needed, occasional buffering if watching a film. We didn’t really get to grips with the TV, it may have just been us but we could only watch through iPlayer and on one evening we gave up as the buffering was continuous! The location down the steep valley may have been to blame! Fortunately the weather was very good and we didn’t need to rely on the TV. I have mobility issues and at the moment use a wheeled walker. The lodge was spacious enough, even the shower room, so I could mobilise easily and safely. The shower was a decent size and I brought my own shower stool, just wish I’d brought my non slip shower mat too. As is often the case there’s nowhere to put toiletries inside the shower however if I opened the shower door I could reach the side window sill so put things there within reach. The toilet is incredibly low, even for the able bodied! It is incredibly peaceful and silent at night, we slept well although the thick duvet was too hot for summer - we were very lucky with the weather! Great location with lots to see and do in the area. We knew in advance that there wasn’t any disabled parking in Staithes which is a shame however we had a good holiday exploring other locations. Check out is the typical 10am, we departed and went for a leisurely breakfast at The Moorhen. We also enjoyed the Fox & Hounds pub with its excellent well kept beer. Great to be able to get fabulous fish & chips at the Excelsior, just a minutes drive away. We had a lovely break and have booked to return next spring! Recommended.

Bumblebee Lodge - booked last minute for a family weekend away. The lodge was absolutely immaculately clean. So impressed. A lovely little welcome hamper with tea coffee etc and some little treats on the side. We didn’t spent much time in site or around as it was rainy and cold we went exploring the North Yorkshire Countryside, perfect base for that! Would definitely return.

Stayed in Drake Lodge on this site and found the lodge really good value for money. It was clean, everything matched (no bits of crockery or cutlery to make up numbers) and the whole place was decorated with care, right down to the lovely duck (drake) ornaments dotted around the place. Complementary tea, coffee, chocolate, milk and washing up liquid was an additional welcome touch, which added to the overall experience. It sported a Smart TV and there was plenty of room for us (my husband and I) and our lovely labrador, who settled immediately. It's sited on a small plot at the end of the site and is fully fenced and is equipped with a patio table and chairs, so if, like us, you are fortunate to get good weather, the door can be left open for your dog to wander in and out at leisure (or just lie on the small patio area and soak up the sun). The previous review has mentioned the view and the positioning of the lodge as not being very scenic but, if like us, you want the peace and quiet and just want to sit outside and enjoy the sun without being disturbed, it's perfect. The site is situated down a rather steep hill, so getting up is a bit of a climb, but again, we are in our late 60s and managed it ok, with a little stop half way up to sit on the bench and take in the view. Remember the beauty of Staithes is that it is a small fishing harbour and so once you go up the hill you turn left and go down another hill to the harbour .... and repeat coming back. You can use your car and park at the top, but there is a charge of around £4.00 for around 3 hours. Cars are not allowed into Staithes itself unless you are a resident. There is a Co-op nearby (around 10/15 mins walk) just turn right at the top of the hill, left at the end and it is further up on the left. Dog walks are again up the hill, cross over the road and go up into the cul-de-sac next to the Church (first turning). At the end of the cul-de-sac are lots of dog walks that take you around Staithes, and dogs can go off lead which is a real bonus. We were only there for a few days so did not get to explore all the walks .... but there's always next time! Summing up, Staithes is a lovely place with a small amount of pubs, ice cream shops and a dog friendly beach that is well worth a visit and I would certainly recommend Drake Lodge as a place to stay if you want comfort, peace and quiet and even though the site is a little 'tired' it adds to its charm. We'll certainly be returning!

Nice clean lodge but no outlook except rear of the lodge opposite. Photos of this lodge have been carefully taken for marketing. Building next to lodge on right over fence is tatty and unpleasant to be next to, needs external renovation work. At entrance to site is a shabby uninhabited building also in need of external renovation. No obvious Reception signs, no obvious water safety advice and aids by the beck. Internally the lodge is smart, clean and nicely furnished.

Fabulous place and amazing little lodge. Almost don't want to tell too many people but the friendly owners deserve a great review. Great village and also surrounding area and fab walks, pubs, region. Easy walk along the beck to the village and also access to the Cleveland way. Totally cosy lodge, clean and amazing wood log burner. Our little baby loved snoozing by the log burner. Lovely and clean and don't be put off by the hill. Not that bad and you can also drive up and leave a car in the car park at the top if you like. Will defo be back. Thanks for having us x x
