Lindisfarne Bed & Breakfast ★★★
"I stayed at the b&b while I was stranded on the island due to bad weather I had 2 nights there , the service was second to none , The breakfast was beautiful and Deborah couldn't do enough for you . Had a later ferry and they didn't have an issue with me and another guest staying in our rooms until we were ready to head for the ferry . My room was spotless and very comfortable with a very nice bathroom . They had a guest sitting room which is nicely set out . Would definitely recommend to anyone . Thanks guys for the great hospitality. Mark "
Ferry Inn ★★★
"We stayed here 3 nights and it was a very pleasant experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was tiny but cozy. The beds were comfortable and there was lots of hot water in the shower. The breakfast was very filling with fruit, yogurt, cereal and croissants on a buffet as well as a menu with cooked to order hot food. This inn is right across from the ferry terminal, so very convenient. The only negative aspect is that there is no elevator and the stairs are very steep and narrow. This was a problem for a few people in our group. However, all in all, I would definitely recommend this inn."
The Royal Hotel Stromness ★★★
"We stayed two nights at the hotel. We received a very helpful e-mail prior to arrival advising of check in arrangements, directions & places to eat. We had a very warm & friendly arrival and our room was excellent. It was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds & we had no issue with noise. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room with lots of choice and a very good cooked breakfast. Chef & dining staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to help us. Wonderful hospitality. We will definitely be back and certainly will recommend the Royal Hotel to anyone visiting Stromness."
The Stromness Hotel by Paymán Club ★★
"I feel like the negative reviews are overly harsh. My mother and I spent four nights here in a quadruple room. Originally, four of us planned the trip together, but two couldn’t make it last minute. The room itself is plenty big for four, but the bathroom would have been a squeeze for four women sharing (and even just the two of us!)! With four of us, the room would have been about £50/night in the high season. That’s incredibly affordable, in my opinion. We did not have dinner at the hotel, so can’t comment on that. The pluses: Rosemary is amazing. She was incredibly helpful, as were Marian and Chris who helped with breakfast and Sophie who helped with the lift. Hospitality was excellent. Location, location, location! This hotel is in a perfect location. It is a few minute’s walk from the ferry terminal and main bus station in Stromness. It is at the beginning of the narrow high street for easy access to shopping. And it has a small parking area (which had plenty of spots our whole trip). Breakfast was good. We had breakfast twice. We had a full Scottish breakfast as well as cereals, pastries, and juices. The pearls: Yes, this grand old Victorian hotel has seen better days. She is a bit threadbare. But that can be fixed. Our room was one of the more recently renovated ones, but it’s taking a bit of a beating. Good, but small shower. Payment system. The booking site said half would be taken out in advance shortly before arrival and half would be payable at the hotel. Less than a week after booking five months in advance, the full amount was charged; thank heavens my account had the funds! Two days before our arrival, I was charged an inexplicable £50. Rosemary did not know why that happened. I’m trusting that was in error and will be refunded. Brewed coffee would have been nice, but the tea selection totally made up for it for me. The beds weren’t the most comfortable, but the pillows were great. The lift was acting up when we arrived, so we hauled our bags upstairs. We should have just driven around the back and parked, because that led directly to our room with no stairs. Lesson learned for departure! We did not have any room cleaning or opportunity to opt in or out. While we were fine with not having service, we are accustomed to having a choice. This may have been due to the short staffing we saw here and, frankly, at every hotel on our holiday this trip. All in all, we had a fine stay. We know the hotel is under new ownership and we hope that our review is constructive in bringing this grand old hotel back to her glory."
Stromness Apartments ★★★
"The location is a 5 minute drive from Stromness. Dander & Cassie the hosts were helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. the accommodation had everything we needed, was comfortable, well equipped, with good wife and Netflix. We ate in one night but with town being so close we ate at the Ferry Inn too. Some great walks to be had around the town - I recccommend the coastal walk."
