Recently had 12 days in Mena palace, arrived 2am and on arrival were greeted by lovely staff who checked us in promptly and even have us a packed lunch as dinner was finished, nice touch. Room was clean and spacious, nice balcony but over looking road when I requested a pool view, but to be honest it was fine and so quiet once doors closed. Air con was rubbish, no handle on outside of balcony door so every time you sat on the balcony aircon went off, even when it was on it was useless to be honest. Food was good with a good selection but never warm, Luke warm at best, the majority of guests were like vultures, they would be pushing in, taking piles of food just to be left in the table untouched, children charging around everywhere and pushing in (yes I have children, but mine have manners). Difficult to get a table inside or out, top tip wait an hour after start time and you will then be able to get a meal without doing an assault course. Coffee machine at bar open 7-11 and 3-6, very good coffee. Snacks were the worst I’ve ever seen at any all inclusive, at 3pm a tray of biscuits was laid out, an ice cream cart, and someone would serve 3 small doughnuts one day the next a hot dog which was a dry roll with a hot dog sausage half the size of the roll, but again the vultures were there and although there was an hour queue most people didn’t think it applies to them and would just push in. The pool is far too small for the hotel, people literally left towels on beds overnight so no chance of getting a bed, one morning I actually set my alarm as the kids wanted to stay by the pool so off I trot at 6 am to get the dregs of the beds left, didn’t move, later on went to the bar and came back 2 of our towels had been stolen, we saw them hanging on someone’s balcony, if people wanted something they would just take it. The hotel does not supply pool towels so had to buy them there so very sad really. The lobby bar does not open ever so just the pool bar, the staff are lovely and work so hard and are spoken to like dirt but it closes at 10pm which is very early even for Bulgaria and cocktails are not included, very limited drinks, drinks are very strong though, All the staff we met were lovely and the hotel is nice and very clean, such a shame about the clientele, rude, loud and selfish. This is not a hotel for English people anymore. The beach is 5 minutes away and beautiful. This is my 4th time in Bulgaria and in my opinion the hotel could be 4 star but how it is run at the moment it is 3* at best. I would not return to this hotel for the reasons listed.
