I recently stayed at this hostel and was pleasantly surprised. Its central location and budget-friendly rates were definite highlights. The beds were also really comfy. If you're looking for a straightforward and comfortable place to stay without any unnecessary frills, I highly recommend this spot.

We ended up giving our host the name 'Fred'... because he is truly a big friendly guy.
The place might be a little rustic, but that was a big draw for us. What it lacks in facilities (not that we needed any of them), compared to a bigger hotel it more than makes up for in its intimacy and warmth of service. There is also a small tea/coffee room with the window facing the waterway - nothing fancy, but I happily spent almost an hour in there planning my day, while watching locals and the resident duck go about their day.
When it came to advice, Fred was detailed, to the point of recommending us the best places to eat along the way to our destinations, what is there in the area.
The room is generally clean, and so is the bed. The bathroom does have a few occasional bugs, but that is simply due to the area you're in. The tv has a good variety of movies, though everything is in Chinese (but they do have old HK comedies...a favourite of mine). The walls may be made of concrete, but noise somehow passes through, and we can hear the occupants next door in lively conversation. But other than that, I had a good night's sleep.
You are literally just a few tens of meters from Pingjiang road, but far enough not to get disturbed by the nightly hustle and bustle. It is also walking distance to the Humble Administrators Garden and IM Pei's cool white building of historical Chinese things.

It is very close to the Pingjiang Road Historical District. There is a small river right outside the door. The district is very lively, but the place where you stay is relatively quiet, suitable for leisurely sightseeing and appreciation.

The location is very good, within 1km from famous attractions - about 20 minutes walk or you can ride a public bicycle in less than 10 minutes. The room is just like the picture, everything you need is there, the blankets are clean - the bathroom sometimes has a sewer smell but this is a common problem in old town houses that I knew in advance so I accepted it and closed the bathroom door. Yes, it won't affect the bedroom. The host is super friendly, ready to assist with what you need - the shop's coffee is delicious and the cats are super cute - this alone is plus 1 point for me. The only negative point is that the electricity is quite weak - if you use the phone while charging it, it can hardly be charged. To fully charge the phone almost takes all night, my backup charger is plugged in all night and is not fully charged - the air conditioner It turned off at midnight, when I turned it back on, the indicator light flashed but didn't work. Fortunately, it wasn't too cold, so I added a spare blanket and it was fine.
