The grounds are lovely as is the hotel and the breakfast Room and Function room both look like they have been recently refurbished, But on a hot day the internal temperature was unbearable as there was no A/C. We were there for a tribute night and even though you had to order your evening meal 4 days in advance the food was IMO very poor with Haggis bon bons served with cold potatoes, Mascarpone & pepper tart so over cooked the mascarpone was like shoe leather and the tart case uncuttable. Main was no better with a small portion of sausage & steak stew and a huge piece of what I think was puff pastry which was cold. Cheese cake had a grainy texture and cheese board was a poor selection, some got some blue cheese others did not, some got brie others did not.. A lot of the problems appeared to be under staffed with food getting cold waiting to be served. Staff were all wonderful, just not enough of them. Buffet Breakfast was very good and the food was like it had been cooked by a different chef to the one that cooked the very under impressive dinner the night before. But the main problem was the overwhelming heat and no A/C all over the hotel and rooms..

Like a residential home for Shearings Groups! Terrible meal choices, small portions, no bread rolls with dinner, breakfast not always ready on time. Sometimes treated like 2nd class citizens. Priority was given to paying guests who weren't part of a coach party.

The hotel is lovely. It's only 40 mins away form Edinburgh. We enjoyed the view on our way there. The room is lovely, very specious, cosy and clean. The outdoor space is also pretty and peaceful. The sweet potato soup is very delicious!!! And the bread is also very tasty. The food portion is BIG!

Coach trip! First impressions of the hotel were good and the first night dinner was acceptable. After that the food was sub standard and was treated like second class citizens if in the coach trip. The other guests were given a separate menu. No entertainment except for one night and the bar closed at 9.40. Very hit and miss, the staff were apologetic, it’s not their fault.

Just stayed here with shearings , lovely location and the food was really nice. The hotel has been recently renovated but has some original features like stained glass windows on the stairs which are really impressive. No lift so consider if you need this before booking. Staff are helpful and courteous.

Needed a short overnight break and decided upon Tinto Hotel as my wife and I wanted to walk in nearby Tinto Hill the next day - next mean feat! We got a really excellent deal of £57.50pp for B&B and £25 towards evening meal. The hotel was really quiet - which suited us just fine. Room very comfortable, a nice few cool drinks in the garden and a really nice meal at night. Food is pretty rustic, good size portions and good drinks menu. You pre order breakfast and, again, good size portions with good quality food. My only minor gripe was that there was a gluten free bread option on the menu but none on the day so perhaps get a loaf and freeze it as it will be toasted anyways. Finally, a special mention to Jade who certainly put some graft over the day! She served behind the bar, in the dining room and even fixed my WiFi issue! Highly recommended!

Called in for a late lunch on our way home from a wee afternoon drive. Had heard the Tinto was open again and decided to give it a go. We hadn't booked and called in on the off chance. The staff were polite, courteous and friendly. We were offered a table in the dining room or in the garden in the sunshine. We chose to sit in the sunshine. We ate from the light bites menu. Hubby chose Cullen skink as it's his favourite as a starter. The soup itself was thick and creamy and full of flavour. He said it was delicious. I didn't have a starter. Hubby then had the tuna and red onion toasted sandwich which came with red cabbage slaw, salad and crisps. I had the cheese, pepper and caramelised red onion toasted sandwich which came with the same sides. We drank a glass of diet coke each. It was presented well and was a decent portion. Used to frequent the Tinto regularly years ago. Lovely to see it's still going. We will be back🤗
