Lovely Ryokan, close to the busy stop. Everything is clean and the staff is friendly and attentive. Spacious room and comfortable futon. The onsen baths are lovely, on the riverside for a great view of the valley, you can "reserve" four of them for private use for a bit of time, just locking the door. Dinner was superb

May 15-16, 2024 From the moment we saw photos of this special place on the internet, we knew we had to stay here! The natural rock onsen baths caught our imagination - and our stay was wonderful beyond expectations! The resort is located in a forested valley is stunning, next to a rushing river. Natural mountain hot spring water is channeled into 7 lovely outdoor onsen baths, as well as ensuite baths. The facility is beautifully designed with gardens and multi-level suites, with each of the levels looking out to the river, with plenty of seating to enjoy the relaxing and lovely views. We were treated with limitless thoughtful hospitality from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left - in fact, one of our group kept commenting "the y[the staff] must think we're really special!". The suite was beautifully appointed with tatami mats, traditional Japanese decor, comfortable beds, yukata and slippers are provided along with tabi socks and plenty of clean linens. Our suite had its own private onsen bath encircled by natural stones, and constantly running hot spring water. Such a contrast to water-parched California and even Hawaii where we're from! The outdoor onsens are open all night, for viewing of the starry night sky. The kaiseki dinner was exceptional, with many many delicious small plates, each exquisitely prepared and presented - a petite, freshly caught local fish was skewered as if swimming and roasted in a salt shell. Utterly delicious! In the morning, after a similarly wonderful breakfast, we experienced a mochi-pounding session with the hotel staff and guests joining in - lots of fun - photos were provided! Transportation - It was a challenge figuring out how to get to this place - finally, we had a Japanese-speaking hotel clerk call the resort, and got instructions for the 1-hour bus ride from Takayama bus station to Shinhotaka Onsen / Nakao Kou-gen-guchi. There are buses running every hour! We walked to the resort from the bus stop when we arrived, and a shuttle van to the bus stop was thoughtfully provided by the resort when we left. PS) I was unable to upload photos. Please provide an email, because you won't want to miss seeing this beautiful place!

I actually booked a two-night stay at the super hard-to-book Gunmikan on Ctrip! The price was less than 2,000, so touching! Take the bus from Takayama to Shinhotaka and get off at H058. After getting off, walk about 10 minutes along the route I drew. If you are good at English, you can also call the hotel to pick you up. A member hotel of the Japan Secret Hot Spring Association, the hot springs are unique, with 9 hot springs, including two mixed bathing hot springs and 4 private hot springs. The hotel's breakfast and dinner are very good. We stayed for two nights, and the dinner on the second day was more exquisite and of higher quality. Because we needed to leave the hotel very early, we couldn't have breakfast in the hotel, and the hotel thoughtfully prepared a lunch box for us. A unique hot spring hotel, recommended for people who like hot springs.

There was a peculiar smell in the indoor bathroom, and the staff cleaned it up in time

Our stay was very comfortable, and the staff were kind and attentive. We really felt immersed in authentic Japanese culture. Our two-night stay was so restorative. We did not have any trouble getting time alone in the private and group onsens. We were nervous about embarassing ourselves, not knowing the details of onsen etiquette, but the room had all the clothing supplies we needed for our entire stay, and they also gave a booklet of instructions. I added on a Japanese massage, and it was great. The food was delicious, even though it was outside our comfort zone. We loved the ceremony of the dishes and courses. Tip -- there's a quick 15min walk behind the inn to a waterfall. We discovered it but don't think people often do!

We had a fantastic two nights in early June enjoying Yarimikan’s hospitality. This was our first experience of a Japanese ryokan but we are sure that we completely “lucked in” with choosing Yarimikan. It was an amazing experience and will certainly live on in the memory. It was an easy bus ride (about an hour and half) from Takayama, we walked from the bus stop to the property (only 10 minutes) although Yarimikan offered to pick us up. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and always available to make your stay as comfortable as possible - truely lovely people. The location is stunningly beautiful, quiet and secluded with the outdoor onsens all down by the river, all offering something different but each lovely in their own way. It poured with rain while we were there but that was fine as the river was “raging” which made the views from the outdoor onsens even more dramatic. The food was sensational and the two evening meals we enjoyed rate up there with two of the best meals we have ever had. The sleeping arrangements are very traditional Japanese, hard beds on tatami mats with hard pillows, not for everyone but part of the experience and are fine. We lived in the Yukata they provided for the whole time we were there which was so comfortable and immediately made us feel at home. It was quite sad to take them off and leave them behind us when we left! Thank you to all at Yarimikan for being so kind and making our stay with you so special.

A wonderful traditional Ryokan with fantastic onsen springs by a beautiful river valley. The food was delicious and the staff so helpful. We loved the walking in the area too. If you can get a room, make this part of your Japan trip, you won’t regret it!

We stayed 1 night in the Yarimikan on our individual 4-week trip to Japan. Location/general: Beautiful secluded location at the end of a small street right on the Gamada River, view of the mountains. Parking in the courtyard. When we arrived, the cook came out and collected herbs. Wonderful Japanese-old school interior, a bit of a dated charm, but that's exactly what makes it so appealing and fascinating. In the lobby, chilled drinks (fair prices) in a tree trunk filled with water and eggs warmed in hot spring water. Very courteous staff, extremely helpful folder with explanations about the ryokan, onsen, etc. The highlight is the outdoor baths - Rotemburo, for single use / mixed / separate. Some fulfilled our Japan Rotemburo dream 100%: rock baths with a river and mountain view. We had no problem bathing alone at around 2:30 p.m. or later in the evening. Wonderful. In the morning there was traditional mochi (rice cake) pounding. Room: We had a "mingai harmony room" on the 2nd floor, No. 208. Spacious, private toilet, shower, small "living room" with armchairs, bedroom with a large window. Fridge, kimonos of course, everything was there. Nothing new, but very well maintained and clean (which is usually not worth mentioning in Japan). Dinner/breakfast: In the traditional dining room, the distances between the tables guarantee privacy. Opulent Kaiseki dinner, absolutely top quality, was one of our only very positive ryokan experiences of this type. Breakfast was also first class. Of course, this is not for anyone who is very fixated on western cuisine. Fair drink prices at dinner too. Absolutely top service. Conclusion: We are really happy that we were here. The scenery is incredibly beautiful, the "old Japan" ryokan atmosphere and the Rotemburos are simply clichéd and dreamy. We arrived by car at 1:45 p.m. and didn't leave the ryokan until 10:00 the next morning. Why? It's so fantastic and relaxing that you should take the time. If you stay 2 nights, you can also explore the surrounding area. Price/performance ratio is very good.

This is my second stay here. I thoroughly enjoyed the hot springs in the wonderful location. It was great to be able to fully enjoy the luxurious feeling in the private bath. The hot water here feels like it's deep in my bones. It's very effective for my tired body. Opportunity I will visit you again if there is.

On the first day after leaving the hotel, my wife said that she would come to this hotel again next time! I heard that this hotel was interviewed on a Japanese TV show, and I searched many websites but couldn’t find how to make a reservation. In the end, I had to email to inquire, but I didn’t expect the reply from the hotel staff. They were very quick and helpful, and even made an exception to reserve 2 duplex rooms for us. The rooms are designed on four floors (bedroom, bathroom, Japanese room and private hot spring). Each room can sleep up to 6-7 people, and the children are here. I kept walking up and down the duplex room, and I was so happy that I went crazy. The private hot spring in the house was beautiful and comfortable that I had never seen in Kusatsu, Arima and Gero. It was the private space and hot spring that my family wanted, all at once. Satisfied! The lobby of the hotel is very gentle and comfortable. The self-service sake rice cake and rice cake experience held in the middle really gives travelers a unique travel experience. The Japanese brunch here is the most unforgettable for me. The grilled fish is even the most unforgettable for me. People who eat fish can’t stop eating. The other dishes are also exquisite and delicious. The arrangement of my family’s dining in a private room is really considerate. (Sorry, the children disturbed other guests) The most eye-catching and must-try ones are those The outdoor hot springs - Gunami-no-yu and Keiki-no-yu are beautiful just by looking at them! (I can't try it because I have to look after children...) The owner and staff's attentive management can be felt during our short stay. Thank you. Thanks to our efforts, this beautiful hotel will last forever!

It's great to be able to tour the hot springs in the midst of nature. Luckily, I was able to make a reservation on the same day and was able to stay there. This is my second time here, and the weather was perfect and I was able to enjoy the baths. There were a lot of foreign tourists. It's been a while since I heard English when I was here. The food was delicious and I was satisfied.I hope to serve you again.

A member inn of the Japan Hidden Hot Springs Association located in Shinhotaka Onsen. I used it for a day trip bath. The bathing fee is 500 yen for use from 1000 to 1400. I was able to take a bath in two mixed bathing areas: Yarimi-no-Yu and Iwami-no-Yu. Yarimi-no-Yu is located along the river and you can take a bath while looking at the mountains.

This ryokan has many open-air baths, including four private open-air baths. In addition, the mixed bathing Yarimi-no-Yu is right next to the river and has a nice view, so you can relax. However, it is only for women from 7am to 9am, so men are recommended to go around that time.
