Royal Orchid Hotel Guam

If you're impatient, be warned that the automatic doors at the ground floor entrance open and close extremely slowly. You might just bump both your shoulders. You take the escalator up to the lobby on the second floor, but it's often stopped because electricity is expensive on the island. This could be tough if you have large suitcases or a stroller. As is common with older hotels, the hallway air conditioning smells musty. In the room, condensation from the AC drips down, and combined with the marble-effect floor, it can be quite slippery. The Wi-Fi connects, but that's about all it does. Regarding Food: For meat-lovers, Tony Roma's is on the first floor, and Jamaican Grill is right next door to the hotel, so you're covered. If you have plenty of time, a big appetite, and enjoy Chinese food, I recommend Majesty Chinese Cuisine, which opened in February this year on the second floor. For pasta lovers, there's Beachin' Shrimp Flame Tree Plaza store four doors down. Regarding Shopping: There's an ABC Store one door down. If you want to save even more money, there's a New LaTest Store two doors down. Kmart is within walking distance, and if you're brave enough, you can even take a stroll there at 10 PM. For Don Quijote, take the free shuttle bus from PIC across the street.

This was my fourth time in Guam, but I booked last minute, so there weren't many options for a family of four. This was my first stay at this hotel, on a standard floor. First off, if you dislike bugs, you might want to reconsider. The front desk staff are genuinely cheerful and friendly. They were kind and helpful with our inquiries, never making us feel like a bother. I'd probably skip the breakfast next time. While the morning view from the breakfast area has a resort feel (see photo), the food selection was quite limited—less than 10 items, including toast, eggs, rice, miso soup, rolls, and mixed vegetables, with no local dishes. By 9:00 AM, there were no staff members around. For our second morning, we opted to eat at a restaurant outside. This is a hotel with a lot of history in Guam. As is common for hotels of this age in Guam, the plumbing and hot water system show their age – weak drainage and brownish hot water. Given its history and affordable price, I suppose it's to be expected. They provide a full set of amenities, and you can get refills at the front desk. The hotel's charm lies in its proximity to Ipan Beach, Proa, and Kmart. Meskla Dos (for burgers) is also within walking distance, and the classic ABC Store is just a 2-minute walk away. Tony Roma's on the first floor: if each person orders a set, you probably won't be able to finish it unless you're a student. Also, the Osaka-ya restaurant, which used to be run by a famous owner and is about a 5-minute walk away, is no longer the same place as the owner has changed to a foreigner. We had a rental car, so the distance to town wasn't an issue for us. But if you're not renting a car, a trolley pass might be useful. A great feature is that you can directly access the parking lot from the guest room floor, so parking on the same floor is incredibly efficient. This is quite rare, as hotels and parking lots are usually separate. Again, I have no complaints because the staff are kind and the price is affordable.

I've stayed here twice, and both times I requested a room close to the elevator. However, neither of my requests were met, and both times I was assigned a room that was the furthest away. They also haven't returned my deposit for one night yet... I really don't want to come back here again.

Everything else was fine, but there was some dust inside the room. Other than that, it's a good value-for-money hotel.

The hotel is not far from the airport; it only takes about ten minutes by taxi if you arrive at night. However, the room was damp and had a strange smell. When I checked in, I specifically asked the front desk staff if there was a hairdryer in the room, and they confirmed there was. But when I got to the room, there wasn't one. The hairdryer they eventually brought up was also not very good, and the hygiene conditions weren't great. My English is quite fluent, so there were no communication barriers, and I was polite, but I could feel that one of the front desk staff members was quite unfriendly towards Chinese faces.

The hotel was very large, but it didn't seem like the facilities were well-maintained, perhaps because fewer people are traveling to Guam these days. The hotel felt quite desolate, and the room had a very old vibe. There was also a slight smell of mold.
