The location is great and of course very easy to find. The building itself is iconic, and while the furniture is quite old, the overall stay was still comfortable and the bed was soft. Breakfast had a good variety and tasted nice as well. One thing to note is that the air conditioner is built into the desk under the TV, which can be a bit confusing if you don’t know where it is or how to adjust it 😂 I arrived around midnight, and the check-in queue took quite a while because there was an issue with the guest before me. The receptionist was not very efficient in handling the situation, which was a bit frustrating since I was already tired. However, my own check-in process was very quick once it was my turn. Overall, I would still recommend this hotel if you want the experience of staying in a classic Soviet-style hotel.

This hotel used to be one of Tashkent's iconic landmarks, centrally located right across from Amir Timur Square. The main building, lobby, and restaurant all have quite an impressive and stylish look. However, the rooms are a big letdown; they're incredibly old-fashioned, feeling like something from the 70s or 80s, with outdated facilities and amenities. The disposable slippers are paper-thin, and the toothbrush bristles fall out. The service at the front desk and in the restaurant isn't particularly noteworthy or welcoming either. At over 400 RMB a night, it's really not good value for money. One night for the experience is enough.

The hotel is centrally located, and both the room and bathroom sizes are adequate. Having an extra living area was very convenient. Our room was right next to the elevator shaft, but it wasn't noisy. However, the hotel frequently hosts large events at night, and the music was very loud and continued until 2 AM, which disrupted our sleep 😴. Toiletries were provided. The bathroom floor had some unknown stains and was quite dirty, but thankfully, after speaking with staff, it was promptly cleaned. The front desk staff's service was mediocre and unprofessional. The hotel offers currency exchange, which is very convenient. I honestly can't comment on the food quality. There were many guests staying at the hotel, and the dining area was very crowded and chaotic.

Hotel is old. The rooms are inconsistent. Bigger rooms are better. Solo rooms are bad. Aircon might not be great in some rooms and heating so please be mindful when booking in hot or cold months The WiFi can be poor in the corner rooms. To the point it doesn’t work. The location is great. Has money exchange and a store right at the hotel. The metro is like 100m from there. Has lots of toiletries but no toothbrushes I think. If your bathroom stinks just put a towel over the drainage holes and the smell should be contained Some of the workers were awesome like this one girl who had colored hair at reception. The bell boy and the cleaning staff were amazing people. A lot of the reception staff is not trained well. Managers are not there a lot of the time.

Pros: Location. Cons: Very obviously, the facilities are extremely old and poor. We booked three superior rooms, and the air conditioning in two of them was unusable (it was incredibly noisy when turned on, louder than sleeping in a train station, the whole room vibrated, and it only blew room temperature air with no cooling effect, so we had to turn it off and open the window). In the third room, which faced away from the road, we didn't turn on the AC so we don't know if it worked (but it's highly likely it didn't). The AC in room 1 is shown in picture 1, and the AC in room 2 is shown in picture 2. Moreover, the air conditioners were covered in dust and seemed like they had never been cleaned. You absolutely cannot book this hotel in the summer. If you sleep with the windows open, it will be very noisy outside. The toilet felt like it was installed later; it wobbled intensely when sat on, to the point where I was afraid to sit on it fully, fearing it would break off completely.

This was our WORST stay in Uzbekistan. I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone to stay in this hotel. The hotel facilities are worn-out and dilapidated, and the staff are incredibly unprofessional. **Hotel Environment and Facilities** 1. NO hot bathing water. 2. The room has NO air-con, you definitely could not live here in hot summer or winter. 3. You could therefore only open the window for ventilation and fresh air, to be be awakened by very loud street racing and car engine noises multiple times during midnight and in the morning. 4. Got mosquito and insect bites in the room. 5. The window curtains are thin allowing light-transmission, the sun ray would stream into your room in early morning. 6. Water coming out from the showering head was yellowish brown. 7. The towels provided were all old and already turned yellow. 8. The G/F lobby, lift lobby, staircases and corridor are dim and shabby. 9. The peephole's vision was blurry, you could see nothing in the corridor from it. 10. Limited breakfast choices. **Staff's Unprofessionalism and Problematic Attitude** A) We checked in at around midnight, yet a cleaning staff holding a bucket came into our room right after we entered, she either went to the wrong room or the cleaning of our room had not been completed yet, either way unprofessional. B) At approximately 11:20 pm on the second night of our stay, a male staff knocked on our door and entered our room without our consent or response (the peephole was non-functional so we were unable to identify the visitor before the door was opened). He then asked for our names without offering any reason. After he left, we went down to the ground-floor reception to seek an explanation. It was only then that he, in a frivolous attitude, claimed there was no check-in record for our room so he came to check. Although he confirmed there was a payment record, but nonetheless asked us to bring our passports downstairs for him to verify. As he did not request for our identification document, his initial in‑room “check” was definitely ineffective. Notably, we had received our room key card and number from the front desk upon arrival, and the card worked without issue for both days. The problem clearly stemmed from the hotel’s failure to maintain proper check-in records. Conducting such an intrusive and futile check late at night was entirely unnecessary, and requiring us to retrieve our passports and return to the lobby further compounded the inconvenience. This behavior was highly unprofessional and constituted a serious breach and infringement of guest privacy, leaving us to repeatedly bear the consequences of the hotel staff’s own negligence. C) We did not display the "do not disturb" sign board, but no one came to tidy our room or replace the replenishables. After incident B, we figured that all three incidents might be stemmed from the same reason, i.e. the reception staff's failure to properly record our check-in. While they should have realised there was a problem when the first staff came on the first night, it took them 24 hours to initiate the handling of the matter, yet in such an ineffective, intrusive and inappropriate way. Our experience is solid proof that the staff are incapable with terrible attitude and no problem-solving skills, and the hotel's system, including record keeping and staff training, is definitely ineffective.

Arrived in Tashkent at night and figured there was no need to book an expensive international chain hotel near Amir Timur Square. So, I settled for one night at the Grand Mir Hotel, given it's a landmark building. I had mentally prepared myself after reading reviews before checking in, but I didn't expect it to be even worse than anticipated. The toilet had no water, the phone was broken, the front desk staff were completely indifferent and gave incorrect directions. The 'free SIM card' office was unstaffed and had no SIM cards available, and the mosquitoes in the room were huge, almost like they could eat you. This hotel is only good for its exterior; it's best not to stay here.

Hotel Uzbekistan offers a quintessential Soviet-style experience that is functional but undeniably basic. The rooms notably lack wifi access, which is a significant drawback for most modern travelers. It delivers exactly the dated atmosphere and service level one would expect from such a storied establishment.

The building is very cool to see from the outside, but the rooms when staying there are very old. The beds are very uncomfortable and the sheets are ancient. There’s no air conditioning and only had hot water one of the days I was there. I wouldn’t recommend staying, but come check it out from the outside.
