Clean but had a musty smell. A dehumidifier was provided already and once we turned that on along with the ac, the smell disappeared. Everything else was clean. The beds sort of wobbled when you moved around on them. Either way, the hotel was clean and quiet so everything else was a minor issue. Well worth the stay and the money to support a small motel.

This was my go to place near Swallow Falls for a few years but I’m not sure if ownership has changed but it’s not what it once was. I booked last minute and got there and the desk was closed and you had to call somewhere else. It took a few tries but I did get someone on the phone and check in was no problem. This place used to have fun themed rooms like a room with deer theming, one with cars, Wild West, etc but the room we got was very worn down. Not until my child was already settled in bed(tired after a long day) did I notice blood stains on the chair but at this point it was after 9 and I didn’t want to wake my child up to move. There was no evidence that beds had been used and not cleaned so maybe the stain has been there a while but I would think most people wouldn’t want to stay in a room with a bloody chair. There were also cigarettes in an ash tray in front of the room outside. I’m not convinced that people don’t smoke in this hotel because the room was musty. I am not a picky person and I’ve had a good experience and stayed there in the past but maybe it has changed ownership. I wouldn’t base your decision whether to stay here on positive reviews that are several years old. Maybe I just got a bad room since I booked last minute but it’s worth reviewing because it’s not like it was 2 years ago when I stayed here. Also, only 2 towels in the bathroom isn’t enough if there’s no one on site if you need more.

What a great room! Such attention to details. Not just one bar of soap and one shampoo but a little basket of multiples. The "night light" was an LED tree which matched the tree theme in the room. The refrigerator was larger than you get in most hotels and had a microwave. The Keurig included hot chocolate which I had never seen in other hotels. The room was clean and the staff very pleasant. Made our stay enjoyable while in Oakland, Maryland.

The Oakland Motel & staff are great. Clean, comfortable rooms. Very nice location in town, near everything including stores, restaurants and more. Especially liked the room decor, very tasteful Americana.

This is a stellar little hotel right in the heart of Oakland. Despite our late arrival, the owner was supremely accommodating and the entire experience was really wonderful. If you are passing through Oakland, check this spot out. You won't be disappointed.

we were in Room 32 and it was noisy. The hot water heater blew up and got our clothes all wet. they said we could move to another room but what a pain. we were done with the baby shower and the water heater made us late for the birthday party. we will NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN ...

So many people gave this motel such good scores, we almost reserved it a second time for our return trip a few days later. I am glad we did not. First some information about the town itself. Even in the summer, it is nearly impossible to get breakfast here except on the weekend. You have your choice between a Denny's, (we stopped visiting them years ago because each and every one has been absolutely terrible), or Mickey D's and other fast-food joints (and they are all crowded at breakfast time). In addition, at least for us, there is absolutely no cell phone service anywhere in the town. When I did a Web search on my laptop for Oakland's cell service, it was claimed they had AT&T service. Well, not on our phones. What was good about the Oakland Motel: Friendly clerk at check-in who allowed us into our rooms nearly 2 hours early. The room was clean and big enough. In addition to a microwave and coffee pot with the usual, there was a toaster (oddly, there also was a notice stating "no cooking in rooms"). Parking is right at the door to your room. Sink water pressure was very good. There was a second sink outside the bathroom. Shower water pressure was better than most hotels and inns. The new shower stall also had a good number of "shelves" for soap, shampoo, etc. The bathroom light was very good (the wife liked that). Internet speed was decent at 10 Mbps down and 13 Mbps up. The negatives: Room itself (aside from the bathroom) was very poorly lit. There was only one bedside table or nightstand and the light on it was very low wattage. The only table was high and using a laptop meant sitting on a high, backless stool to use it. There was no other chair in the room. The large screen TV was set to fill only 2/3 of the screen (very odd). There was no closet, only a hanging fabric thing for storing clothes. A window air conditioner and a dehumidified sitting on the floor were very loud, but we turned them off before going to bed and back on in the morning. Traffic on the main road that runs through town was very loud all night as the motel is so close to the road. We did not get a good night's sleep.
