We have stayed here before and had an amazing time but this time we were not so impressed. Room was plenty big enough and we liked the decor but the mattress was way too soft and with no support on the sides, it was like the cheapest sort you would never buy. Bathroom, zero water pressure to have a shower, it was that bad that when you took it off the wall and held it up the water just trickled down your arm. Food wise, the food in the evening was very good, no complaints there. The breakfast was mediocre at best and the continental side just went and they don’t seem to replace. If you’re early then ok but after 9am and you will struggle. Bar wise, soft drinks are out of a bottle so are pretty much flat, the beer comes out looking like Mr Whippy and when we were there they couldn’t figure out how to make the simplest of drinks, that was when someone was behind the bar. Shame really as we all said this hotel could be and should be knockout amazing but it wasn’t. Not sure if it has changed hands but there wasn’t the service that was there before. Probably won’t stay again.

My experience of howfield manor was just plain awful. I wanted to celebrate valentines and thought this place to be fantastic how wrong I was. I had booked a room and had also previously emailed to ask if I could order from main menu and if they did room service, I had confirmation that I could do both. Upon arrival I was told I couldn't order from main menu or have room service until 8pm. A bit late but we said we would look at menu and return. We went to our room and this was a small double there was a small desk so I asked did they bring a table we could eat at. I was told No. The manager asked what the issue was and we told him. He replied look at the menu decide what you want and I will ask if the chef can cook these for you. We went down at 5.40 to see if the chef would cook our choices or if we would have to eat out. We were told sit sit I tried to ask if the chef was prepared to cook our choices and the manager said yes he would sit her. Again I tried to say I'm not dressed or changed he said not to worry sit here. Here turned out to not even be in the restaurant. We were placed where the breakfast was set up was our romantic meal turned into a rushed affair that saw us back in our room by 7. The following morning at breakfast the food was lovely however when we went to get a pastry to eat with our coffee there was only one left, I asked the waiter for more and was told there may be a wait however he then informed us there would be no more pastries this was at 9 am. We left!!! We spent £200 to experience unyielding staff, a very hot room (couldn't open window as smoking area below) and inadequate breakfast a poor show by all and won't be returning.

Just return from an amazing family wedding at Howfield Manor. The staff were some of the most friendly and accommodating staff I think have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble and they had smiles on their faces constantly ! The rooms are fine - mattresses are superb and everything you need in the room. The wedding food was amazing and beautifully cooked. The breakfast was also superb. The quality of the bacon and sausages was excellent - not out of a pack. Overall I could not fault this hotel - it’s very cosy and intimate and the place has a really nice homely feel to it. Without question I am going to return here again. Also the manager ( really lovely guy !! ) - super friendly and helpful Overall 10/10

Here for two nights whilst attending a wedding in petham So we only slept here and had two breakfasts which were delicious with a few nice unexpected additions like advacdo on sour dough with egg and onion it was really nice there was fresh porridge - pancakes etc all freshly cooked good hot coffee pots and tea etc Lovely grounds well kept Lots of outside sweating areas Large car park No lift to the upstairs bedrooms may be an issue for some. We had room 15 it was very clean well equipped tea coffee facility a fridge iron safe tv windows that open! Heating comfy bed BUT the shower over the bath was appalling no water pressure at all trickle of water 💦 unable to shower in it. Only a liquid soap supplied and a shower cap no other cosmetics🤷‍♀️

Our first impressions of this hotel were simply wow. The grounds and building are amazing. It was just as impressive inside. We were both happy that we were staying in such a beautiful place and this continued as we entered our room which had amazing views and was very cozy. Unfortunately this feeling was dampened when we picked up the rooms welcoming pack. In all the hotels we have ever stayed in, never has there been a list of extensive charges for lost to damaged items. It states that if you break or lose items whilst staying or after leaving the hotel your credit card that they are holding will be charged. Isn’t this obvious and expected by the guest? It wasn’t very welcoming. Moving on, our room was very clean but the bathroom felt tired and needed a bit of maintenance done. The toilet seat was loose, shower curtain rail had rusted, window latch was broken. All these things could be fixed at such a small cost. We did point out to reception that the toilet seat was very loose and to be fair was sorted out immediately. One thing for sure about this hotel is that all the staff are very friendly, helpful and are attentive to all your needs. Apart from these niggling issues we would definitely want to return at some point.

In the area on business and stayed at Howfield Manor for one night. Interesting building in nice grounds. Food at dinner was good, I had Duck which was chef's recommendation. Served by young Isabelle who coped well under pressure, despite being there for only 2 months. Room clean and comfortable, although had to ask for TV to be sorted as it was not working on arrival.

A lovely old building with well kept grounds. We only stayed one night, which was a Sunday so diner was the usual choice of roast beef, chicken or pork with all the trimmings and it was very good. Breakfast was also very good too, I had eggs benedict (eggs cooked but runny yolk) and my wife had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which she said was also very good. Only gripe: the ice machine was broken and apparently had been for a week, so get some ice delivered in giant bags. Our room (No16) was large, clean and pleasant but the bathroom could do with a refresh, bot the radiator and the shower curtain pole were rusty. A good location though and if I was in that area I would happily stay again.
