Tanjore Hi Hotel

This hotel should not be in business. No one was there at night, the entry door was open at 6am as two women were sweeping. Our driver looked for a toilet to use and found a room with rats. My reading lights were broken. It’s located on a main road with lots of traffic and nowhere to unload the suitcases from the car. Restaurant was empty. We were the only people there.

Located a few steps from the entrance to the 1000 years old Chola Palace, the hotel is clean and its staff is friendly. The colours are held in dark blue which is fine in general but a bit awkward for the bathrooms. The restaurant is on the top floor. It has a terrace towards the lively main street below. No alcool served, but otherwise OK. The rooms, we stayed two nights, were clean and comfortable. However, the building is old and the door to our room was low and narrow. I hit my head a couple fo times. The old town with the palace is right opposite the hotel, and the Brihadisvara temple is in walking distance, about 2 km.

Terrible. Dirty, exposed electrical wiring in room, dirty stained bed linen, broken toilet seat, hot water tap on sink broken, cold sambar served at breakfast, no staff on reception to check out although it was 8.30 a.m. Just putting "boutique" in the title does not stop a dreadful hotel from being dreadful. (7 trips to India since 1991 so I am not moaning without good reason!!).

Limited rooms, no TV and great ambience are the highlights. It’s a quirky boutique hotel near the Palace. The property is pretty well maintained with clean linens and bathrooms. Most of the locations to visit are walkable from here. Overall, it’s a good stay.

Tanjore Hi Hotel Heritage or Shack? Horrible, dirty, old place sold as Heritage but once inside the room all the walls are painted in a deep dark blue that makes you feel claustrophobic especially in the bathroom. Bathroom is the most horrible part: dirty and old. Service are rude. We should have stayed four days but we run away at the second day just because we already paid!!! We felt to run away immediately!!! Avoid it!

The staff were quite pleasant, however, we, a couple in our 70's, were asked to pay upfront and they would only accept cash, which meant a trip to an ATM before we were allowed to check-in. Neither were we provided with a receipt for the payment made. The hotel itself looks very run-down and is located on a very noisy street. Our room itself was dark and looked out onto walls, which made the whole ambience extremely unappealing and claustrophobic. The bedding appeared to be clean, but was un-ironed. On visiting the roof-top restaurant, we noticed that the bedding was being washed and dried on the premises and it was being draped to dry across the restaurant terrace. It was very noisy at night, with people speaking very loudly on the stairs and landing outside our room and this was exacerbated by the spiral staircase and amount of glass. In view of the foregoing comment, neither my wife or I wished to risk eating in the hotel. If this hotel is really a part of the Dune Wellness Group, we will certainly not be looking at booking accommodation at their hotels in the future.

This is the second time, i am staying at this hotel….the last time, i stayed here had a good experience….but i was very disappointed this time….they have shut down everything….only available facility was rooms….and that also not maintained well….it had become an abandoned property…..the only bright side, was the staffs….they were very helpful and tried to cheer me up, seeing my disappointment…..Please stay away from this property till they are fully functional
