A secret gem right in the rain forest of Volcano Village! This was really the most incredible Bed & Breakfast my husband and I ever went to (and we have travelled more than 60 countries in the world!). The owners Gabrielle and Nicole were the most considerate and loveable hosts you can possibly think of. The lodging does not only lack ANYTHING whatsoever but is equipped with literally EVERYTHING you might need and long for! The rooms in the „house in the mist“ are brand new and offer everything you dream of, including heated mattress covers when you feel chilly in the rain forest at night. We as Europeans were especially thrilled and happy about the usage of real china, real water and wine glasses and real solid reuseable cutlery instead of throw-away plastic equipment (so much harmful for nature and the environment) that is elsewhere so common across all of the U.S. Gabrielle and Nicole, you cannot estimate how much we appreciated this. The divers breakfast offers are all freshly prepared, very delicious (orange juice in GLASS bottles!!) The lodging combines a large paradise rainforest garden (PERFECT for relaxing) on a true historical site with an old wooden and charming little main building (that the owners use for themselves) and a brand-new 3 room guest house right next to it. The perfect ensemble! So sad we could not stay longer…. There is so much to discover in the surroundings. Next time we definitely will! Thank you so much for this unforgettable experience, Gabrielle and Nicole! And thank you for sharing this piece of paradise with us travelers - that is how I image environmentally sustainable, meaningful and ecologically worthwhile traveling. Thank you for feeling like part of your ohana! We can only recommend your Bed & Breakfast from the bottom of our hearts!

We enjoyed staying at Hale ‘Ohu during our last visit two years ago that we decided to return on our current travels. We were not disappointed- this is a tranquil B&B located within a mile of Volcano National Park. There are just three adjacent rooms located in gorgeous surroundings of lush vegetation. Beautiful walks around the grounds & easy access to a couple of decent restaurants & the Park itself. The rooms are immaculate- so clean, beautifully decorated & very, very comfortable. Breakfast is placed in your refrigerator every afternoon ready for the next morning with reheating instructions if required. The breakfasts were home-made & delicious. This is a really well-managed property with utterly delightful staff. A real find in Volcano. Highly recommended. We

A lovely, peaceful location surrounded by rainforest with a walking path on the property to explore. A very warm welcome from Nicole, a comfortable bed, a quiet sleep and the softest towels ever! A mattress heating pad was perfect for a good night’s rest after hiking all day. Location is perfect for easy access to the lava tubes and hiking the caldera of Kilaueia Iki. Loved the lush surroundings, hearing the birdsong when falling asleep. Having the breakfast in the fridge the night before is ideal and convenient for eating at a time that suits your schedule. Would definitely return again if it wasn’t so far from home.

The owners are well traveled and have put the best of their knowledge into this place. Rooms are super comfortable and have patios opening on to a variety of beautiful gardens on a large and private property. Breakfast is gourmet level and waiting in the fridge to heat up - so you can eat whenever you want. Electric blankets are provided for the chilly nights! Convenient to town and nearby Volcanoes NP. Highly recommended.

Great location. Clean nice place. Beautiful gardens. Quiet. We enjoyed the breakfast and our stay here. Close proximity to the park and everything in the village. Highly recommended. When we come back to Volcano we’d definitely stay again.

Hale Ohu is a gem. Our room, one of three in the guest building, was very well appointed - everything was modern and tasteful. The breakfast concept was delightful and both breakfasts we had were delicious. Hale Ohu is located on lush, tropical grounds, where we felt a sense of relaxing privacy. The owners were very helpful, recommending ideal dining and shopping options. We were so pleased that we chose Hale Ohu for our lodging in Volcano Village. Our stay was a highlight of our 10 day vacation in Hawaii.

It's just one of the nicest bed and breakfasts at which we've ever had the luxury to spend time. The owners thought of everything and then some. As you leave the main road you enter their property you are immediately enthralled by the environment. This B&B is in an absolute rainforest. The foliage, the vegetation. It's gorgeous. The grounds are meticulously maintained and absolutely the most amazing grounds you could ask for while staying in a Hawaiian rain forest within driving distance of the world's most active volcano! Upon arriving at the property itself and walking into your room you are immediately impressed with personal/fine touches. There are umbrellas at the door underneath the covered entryway to protect you from the frequent rain. There are more than enough hooks inside and out for hanging wet rain jackets/etc....the room is modern and chic with a patio that overlooks the best most amazing backyard anyone could ask for. Beautiful for morning coffee and breakfast or for evening tea or wine. The room features a refrigerator with a real freezer, microwave, toaster, real coffee maker, wine glasses, cork screw/etc...everything you could possibly need. There is a guidebook to the local area with recommendations of everything from local restaurants to Volcano National Park and the can't miss hikes and can't miss food. Other local activities etc... The beds are amazing and feature an amazing in mattress heater if you get cold (it was cool, yes, even in July). After sleeping soundly all night to the sound of the rainforest breakfast was delicious. Our two nights featured variations on eggs, fresh banana bread, pineapple in a papaya bowl, coffee, local juice/etc... Stay here. It is immaculate and worth it. We will be back.

I was traveling solo to visit family in Volcano, and was so happy I chose Hale ‘Ohu as my home base. It is clear that the proprietors have put their whole heart and soul into operating a bed-and-breakfast with attention to detail and thoughtfulness. The grounds were exquisite, the accommodations were perfect. It’s a hard place to leave.

Excellent approach, very quiet property serene and gorgeous, very comfortable beds and rooms- very clean! 10/10 couldn’t be happier with the stay. Owners are accommodating of your needs but leave you alone so it truly feels secluded instead of feeling like you’re in someone’s home. They’ve thought of all your needs in the room, too. We both felt it was one of our favorites we’ve visited in our travels
