Alii Kane Cottages with Loft

Loved this cottage. Wish we could have stayed more than one night. Perfectly situated near the Volcanoes National Park. Quaint area and owner. Comfortable and had everything we needed. Kitchen and wonderful quiet location Would recommend.

Alii Kane Cottages is a collection of cottages located about 6 miles from Hawaii Volcano National Park. This property is located off of Highway 11, nestled amongst lots of trees. We stayed 1 night after booking a cottage from *********** @ 160$/night. The owners are very responsive and they emailed me a couple of times before the stay, informing me on how to get there and providing additional information regarding the stay. When we checked in late evening, the owner came by and explained various amenities in the property. This is not meant to be a luxurious stay by any stretch of imagination. We had changed our existing itinerary and suddenly needed a place to stay close to Volcanic National Park and this fit the bill, both in terms of distance as well as value. It gets very cold at night and the owner provided 2 different types of heater as well as an electric blanket for comfort. I couldn’t recommend this place higher! It was an amazing base camp during my week long stay. Owners had great recommendations on things to do and were super friendly. I ended up having an issue with my rental car and they gave me a ride up to Hilo so I could get a replacement. It felt very much like a home away from home.

I am so glad we found this wonderful, cozy cottage in Volcano. It has every amenity you could think of and is still woodsy and quaint. The owners, Mike and Susan, are friendly and helpful. It can get chilly at 3000 ft. elevation, but the bed has a warming pad that can be set to the preferred temperature on each side! The property is 4 acres so you feel very secluded, even though there are two cottages and the owners' home. Plus, you are only 5 miles from the national park entrance. The kitchen is fully appointed with a refrigerator, full stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. The front porch has a beautiful big propane BBQ too. Susan provided us with delicious Ka'u coffee and local chocolates. And if you prefer to go out, the menus from all the local restaurants are there for your choosing. It is amazing that this place is so affordable. Truly a value.

The host, Mike, met us on arrival and gave us all the details we needed - including letting us know that the volcano was active, so we got a once in a lifetime chance to see that! The location was great, in a rain forest setting and only 10 minutes to the National Park. The grounds were well kept, clean, and relaxing. The cabin itself was a great size for our family of 4, and each kid had their own bed. The interior of the cottages are average, but nice and clean. Comfort of guests is obviously important to the owners and we slept great! They have heaters as well as bed heaters too!

We stayed here for the second half of our trip, after spending 4 nights in Kona to start. It is very quiet, jungle-like setting. Warm, cozy cottages with all the amenities you need. Owners meet you at check in and make sure all is taken care of. The town of Volcano is a good spot to use as a home base for exploring the east side of the Big Island and the National Park.

As others have said, it is within a 10-minute drive of the volcano, which makes it very easy to drive to the overlook after dark to see the lava glow. The cottage is immaculately kept and in a lovely setting. Susan (one of the owners) was a delight to talk to, and she has TONS of information about the local area. In addition, there are numerous books and brochures in the room with tourist information. This was a great location, but be warned that the village of Volcano shuts down on Mondays. Plan on using the fully equipped kitchen in the cottage, or drive to Hilo to grab dinner.
