The hotel is quite satisfactory, the rooms are small and the facilities are okay. The parking lot is spacious and free. There are not many supermarkets and places to eat around. The price/performance ratio is so-so.

As we walked into the suite, we thought: what a nice room! It had a kitchen with a table and chairs and the beds of course. Linens were clean and the overall cleanliness of the room seemed great at first glance. The beds and shower head were decent.. As I walked into the bathroom, I noticed dust bunnies in the corners of the room behind the toilet. Not too big a deal. It appeared as though the person renting the room before us had a bit of a poop explosion because there were poop spatters (or what appeared to be) on the wall under the toilet paper roll and door. I attempted to wipe the spatter on the door up... thinking this can't be poop but yes...it was brown in colour. I didn't bother trying to remove the poop spatters from the textured wallpaper. The ice bucket was very dirty with lots of dust and the colander was dirty too. I just made sure to wash it in the kitchen sink with the dish soap that was available before using it. Had I stayed more than one night, I would have brought it up to the attention of the staff but my stay was very brief so I just dealt with it. Would I return? Yes. Breakfast was good, great coffee, clean pool and spa. The staff was very professional and helpful. The pool guy took pride in his work. Overall, it was good. Housekeeping just has to pay closer attention to the little things.

We always book a room at the Valhalla Inn on our way through Thunder Bay, and usually look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this trip was a disappointment and will likely be our last. We stayed in a king studio drive up. Soon after arriving and settling in we found that a light in the suite wasn't working, and the sliding door from the suite to the parking lot was broken (both the latch and the charlie bar), apparently the result of a recent break-and-enter. We returned to the front desk and were offered a different room. The new room reeked of cigarette smoke and so we returned to the front desk again and indicated we could stay in the original room if someone would fix the door. A very plesant maintenance worker was in and out of the room a few times and ultimately secured the door with a broom stick. When we approached the front desk to request compensation for the poor room condition and disruption to our evening we were informed no compensation was possible as we had booked our trip with Expedia. Furthermore, the front desk employee was curt and unapologetic for the inconvenience. When we travel we opt to pay a little more to feel safe, comfortable and welcome. The Valhalla failed to meet these expectations and next time through the city we plan to explore the Best Western Plus Norwester.

I found this hotel on TripAdvisor but as usual there was no contact information. I found a website but the contact phone number was for a call center in the USA where they only speak English or Spanish. This is CANADA,NOT the USA! Very poor. I found the address, drove across town and went in. The front desk agent was very pleasant, gave me a really affordable rate and answered all my questions. I was hauling a trailer and he directed me to a side parking lot with good lighting and video surveillance. The room was very nice and included a rerigerator but no microwave. There was also a 51” LCD TV and King size bed. Although nice, the King bed made the room tight to navigate. The room could have been just a little larger. What was really annoying was the coat rack / cabinet. The rack was 6' off the floor! I had to stand on a chair to hang up my coat and other clothes. Not everyone is 6' tall! I was up early as I had another long day of driving ahead. Continently breakfast was included and I arrived at the breakfast room when it opened at 0630h. They had all the usual things for continental breakfast. It was very good and there was no waiting as I was the only one in the room. Check out in the morning was very efficient by another agent (blonde female, sorry I forgot her name) who was also very pleasant. I will stay here again on my way through Thunder Bay. *Note, 3 stars because there was no local phone number to call and speak directly to the hotel and the poorly designed coat rack.

We drove from Toronto to Manitoba and back, stayed in several hotels along the way, and this one was our favourite. Rooms are clean and spacious and everything is done right. Our stay was relaxing and comfortable. And the customer service was exceptional: when we first arrived, due to a mix-up (caused by booking.com), the gentleman at the front desk couldn't find our reservation. But even though they were fully booked, he not only found a (better!) room for us but also gave us a significant discount ”for the trouble” (which turned out not to be their fault anyway). He still honoured that even after he eventually found our original reservation in their system.

The environment is average. It is worse than other Super 8s. On the main street, the whole building is relatively old, the service is ok, and the stairs are too smelly. The door is unlocked, breakfast is OK

GGuest UserStayed here one night as a group in 2 rooms. Would definitely recommend it for Thunder Bay, seems like it might be the nicest property in town. Some details... --Rooms are typical Hampton Inn, and kept very clean. --Beds reasonably comfortable. --Bathrooms plenty big enough and everything works. --Common areas are, again, standard Hampton Inn stuff, but all quite new. --Front desk folks were always nice and helpful. --Rate was maybe a smidge on the high side for this level of property, but not exorbitant. --Pool is in good shape, if a bit smallish. --One tip - actually getting into the parking lot is a bit confusing. You have to turn south at a stop light well west of the property, then go down towards a different hotel, before turning to get to the Hampton Inn. No signage indicating this if driving eastbound. Be aware. I would recommend it and stay here again when in town. It is a bit distant from the main downtown area but otherwise it checks all the boxes.
GGuest UserWe tried many locations for a room for the night when we came into Thunder Bay on a road trip. After 5 hotels said they were full we called the Nor’ Western. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the first phone call to find out if they had a room and they did. Lana in the restaurant was very friendly and so easy to talk to. We are so happy we ended up here for the night before going to Winnipeg. The patio area is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We would gladly stay here again.
LLINGThe location of the hotel is superior, it is very convenient for shopping, eating and traveling, the room is relatively large, the facilities are newer, and the bed is very comfortable. For breakfast, the child ordered a waffle sausage set at the restaurant downstairs (extra charge), but no sausage was served. When checking out, he said he thought we didn't want sausage but we were willing to pay for the set? The waiter's brain circuit is very strange.
Nnancygao2007The hotel has good space, particularly spacious passages, high floors, and good facilities. Because of the epidemic, the breakfast provided is cold packed bread🥯
GGuest UserOne night stay on a Monday night. Room was nice enough, breakfast in the third floor breakfast room was good - seems to mostly the usual pre-made food but the ”quiche” and some nice sourdough bread felt a little bit nicer than at some other hotels. Location seems just okay to me - the things we wanted to do were a bit more ”downtown” but I suppose that depends on what you are doing while you are in town. Close to the airport, several restaurant options and two Metro grocery stores. Seemed like one of the better Thunder Bay options we had available given the corporate rate I got.
We were visiting an old friend whom we hadn't seen in almost 50 years, and Thunder Bay was a 2 night stay on our journey west. We booked the motel in advance for one night initially. The room was a good size and clean with most amenities. However, I couldn't find a coffee maker and went to the front desk to inquire. The gentleman told me that they don't keep coffee makers in the room because they get stolen, but there were a few available upon request. Later on, my wife needed a hair dryer, but none could be found as most are attached to the wall...so I went to the front desk again. Yep, you guessed it. There aren't any in the room as they get stolen, but a few were available upon request. Both the coffee maker and hair dryer were to be left in the room upon our departure. As we were meeting our friend for lunch the next day, I booked a second night. When I went outside the next morning, I noticed a brown spot on the white hood of my truck. There was a cigarette butt and ashes as someone from the balcony above had flicked a lit cigarette from the second floor. The next night, I parked my truck away from the second floor. Although the motel only deserves a 2 star rating, I gave it a 3 due to the accommodating staff and descent room. If you do need to stay in Thunder Bay, book in a better part of town.
GGuest UserThe sheets were crumpled like no replacement, the air in the room was not good, and it was not a taste. There is no elevator in the hotel, and seven or eight pieces of luggage are going to move upstairs. Speaking a little off topic, from Vancouver all the way to the east to the place, I found that the hotels here are generally very expensive, because it is almost 1000 kilometers to the east to find a slightly like hotel, all the way is a small motel It can be seen that this is a stop where driving must stop. The supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants here are very expensive! Come catch up with Vancouver.
GGuest UserTraveling across Canada for a move and when arriving to Thunder Bay we were left with no place to stay. And the few places that was left were way outside our budget or did not accept pets. Reviews were not that great so we were sceptical about this hotel. But we had no choice. We were amazed of the great service we got and room was amazingly big, very clean and no smell at all. You have to take in consideration that this is an old building so you do not get the luxury snd structures if a newly built hotel but for just passing by for an over night sleep, we cannot complain. The only thing that was missing was furniture as we only had two beds and a night stand. Overall we were satisfied and way better then what the bad reviews were saying.
This hotel is so comfortable it's very clean, very modern, and very welcoming! The room has as n ice maker, dishwasher, iron and ironing board! The kitchen has a stove, microwave, and coffee maker, and don't forget the toaster..The pillows are fabulous and the bed is super comfy! The restroom comes with all the hygiene you could possibly need to get yourself clean and fresh. There's a convenience store inside the hotel a gym as well as a laundry mat. Very nice hotel! I loved it!
