This was our 3rd camp on our 16 night safari covering both Kenya and Tanzania. We stayed 3 nights. The facility is nice, rooms are great and the food was good. We had some fantastic game viewing including more rhinos than we ever expected to see. So why only 3 stars? The guides. The passion and enthusiasm that our guides had at our previous 2 Elewana camps was entirely lacking. The basics of the games drives were covered and we saw some amazing things. However, there's a noticeable difference between a guide who is passionate about what they are doing vs someone just doing a job. The job got done, but it certainly could have been done better. Unfortunately this seemed a camp-wide issue not limited to our guide. Also, there is an a la carte menu of add-ons that is presented during the check-in process. Felt like cruise ship upsells vs higher end safari camp. In spite of the somewhat off-putting cruise ship-like additional charge, we were interested in doing a night game drive. We brought it up to our guide who basically told us that there's no point in doing it. We won't see much, not worth the time. Based on that we decided not to do it but not because we agreed with what he said. At our previous camps we came back at dark on some of our games drives and in the headlights saw some glimpses of the nocturnal critters. We wanted to see more on a dedicated night game drive however our guide had no interest. Had we purchased, he clearly wouldn't have been happy and our experience would have suffered. Based on the situation, we opted not to do the night game drive but we both feel that was an opportunity missed. As I said in my previous reviews, the guide truly makes or breaks the safari experience.
