My husband I had been hiking all day in the nearby area, and went to The White Hare as it looked like a nice place for lunch. We were dressed in our walking gear, and I suspect this may have been what influenced the behaviour we experienced. Our intrigue quickly turned to bafflement, when we went inside. There was a man and woman behind the bar, who kept their backs to us as we patiently waited for about 10 minutes to be acknowledged. We remained standing there, while the woman saw us, took a phone-call and continued to ignore us with her back to us. The man had walked off at this point leaving us standing there. It was quite clear from their pointed positioning, and behaviour that this was deliberate. Eventually, the man came back and my husband asked if there was any space for lunch (the pub looked almost empty at this point in the day). The man shook his head and said no. We found another nice pub nearby for lunch instead. I have never been outright seen this behaviour before from a Gastro-pub, and we live in a nice area of South West London next to four of them. It's a shame, as Tintern is a lovely area, and the insecurity and misplaced snobbery of a select few can really taint the experience of the place.

Seemed to be the only thing open in Tintern on a Tuesday, at least thats what the girl at reception said. This wasnt true, we found out later. We struggled to find a menu and found that we had to queue at the counter to get one, then we had to leave our place in the queue to find a table to get a number and then go back to end of queue. It was hard to find a vacant and clean table as tables were not being cleaned until someone came and sat at them! Two tables remained with dirty plates on for the whole time we were there. We had welsh rarebit toasties, not something I would repeat. The welsh rarebit was diminished by being served between two pieces of toast, instead of on top of the toast. Staff were friendly and very apologetic about the wait for food and for some, not getting their food.

Book a table for 4 with friends always wanted to try this place as driven past it many times aren’t looks deceiving !!! Looks nice on the outside wish I’d never set eyes on the place From the moment I got in there I was disappointed The menu was totally different to what was advertised on their webpage I mean come on how difficult is it to keep your webpage up together the initial service and when arriving was terrible we were left standing at the bar until the relevant person come to show us to our table the barman was up him self and wouldn’t take any drinks orders until we were seated bearing in mind we stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting to be seated in fairness I couldn’t fault the waiter he was attentive but the food was pure filth some of the worst food I’ve had for the money involved it look like it had been catapulted onto the plate presentation was awful and I found it to be tasteless and barely touched mine in fairness the steak was tasty but in my opinion I’ve had better states for the money trying to get a drink was like trying to get blood out of a stone I certainly would not recommend this place to anybody it certainly isn’t value for money the staff are stuck up i.e. the barman and I get the impression they think that they are better than they are just because they have a fancy menu with some very fancy prices I certainly will not be visiting again I will not be recommending it to anybody so disappointed also you need to watch out for the 10% service charge which in my case was £18 So for a meal cost roughly £45 ahead in my opinion is no better than average at best

After a visit to Tintern Abbey we went to the Wild Hare for lunch. A lovely dog friendly restaurant for my birthday lunch. Can highly recommend the sharing seafood platter. Excellent meal, and excellent service. Locally sourced supplies of both food and alcohol. Also gave a coffee shop on site for lighter lunches.

A large restaurant bar with views out into high street. We called-in here for a evening drink whilst we were out strolling around the village before setting off to have dinner elsewhere. We enjoyed a really good glass of Verdejo wine each sat in pleasant airy surroundings. The mostly awful music was a bit loud.

A beautiful setting, very comfortable hotel with excellent food let down by poor table service in the restaurant. The overall ambience is super, with super comfortable and clean rooms, the food fantastic and faultless however front of house overall was quite poor. Key issues: - Too many staff and lack of coordination. - Poorly trained staff who didn’t seem to have much of a clue how to wait and clear tables. - Staff who were repeatedly asked for things which never materialised. After 3 attempts at securing a drinks order for our table I had get out of my seat to speak to someone directly. A highlight was one in our party who asked for another dish which duly arrived and was plonked unceremoniously on her previous plate - it reflected the whole tone of the experience I’m afraid.

We stopped off for lunch & a beer while staying nearby. The food was exceptional. So tasty! The staff were very friendly & made us & our chocolate lab so welcome. The playlist of background music was also fab. Highly recommended!

We dropped in for coffee, stayed for lunch & booked in for dinner the following day. The food & drink were excellent but what sets the Wild Hare apart is its fantastic people. They are so friendly and helpful, even when suffering from extreme staff shortages; they made us feel like we’d known them for years. We found the sort of welcome you can’t teach on a customer service training day, it comes from the heart, and we hope that when we return after the refurbishment, we’ll find the same great bunch of people there.
