MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East

The hotel is quite large compare to others. We are 4 people in a room. It is very comfortable. There is a dinning table and kitchen with kitchen ware. Walking to Ueno JR station is only 5 min. I will come to this place again.

We were very happy with this modern but Japanese style hotel, and the staff in particular were lovely and would greet us like old friends every time we walked past reception. The rooms were well laid out but were a little smaller than they appeared in the photos. The shower room was fantastic - I need one of these at home now. Each bed had available USB charging ports. The only drawbacks of this hotel were the hard beds (common in Japan) and the location. Although it was an easy walk to the Iriya exit of Ueno station and there were several convenience stores close by, it was more of a residential/commercial area with not much else around in the way of restaurants/shopping.

It’s a 5 min walk from UENO station, where the Shinkansen and metro lines are available. It’s easily accessible to all places. Don’t expect it to be like a hotel. It is more like a apartment-hotel. The room is big for Japan Standard and is especially good for families with children. The reception will be closed after 10pm and you gotta access the building with your room card. We love the common laundry facilities although it is highly utilized. The hotel also has a list of recommended restaurants nearby which is very thoughtful of them. We chanced upon the Ameyoko Market area on our last day. There were lesser tourist crowds. The vibes is pretty local and we had a value-for-money all-you-can-eat yakiniki there!

Great family stay at Mimaru Ueno East. It’s a quieter area with easy access to most parts of Tokyo from the station (10 min walk). The staff were very helpful and accommodating when our flight was delayed and we required a 2:30am check in! Rooms are spacious and well laid out. The area itself does not seem to have heaps of family friendly places to eat - probably better suited for parents with older kids who are happy to walk a little further.
