GLOU Higashi Shinjuku

I will definitely book here again, the location is both convenient and just tucked away enough not to be noisy. Staff is very friendly.

Great location. Not in the thick fo things but about 20 min walk from the Shinjuku train stations and tons of food options.

This room is good enough for one person. But because I should use ladder to get bed, it’s quite scary when I wake up the morning. (It’s almost 2m height)

GLOU is located in the residential area away from Korean Town in Higashi Shinjuku. It is a 3-minute walk from exit B1 from the Fukutoshin Line (Tokyo Metro) and a 13-minute walk from the JR Shin-Okubo station. Check-in progress was straightforward, and our room was very spacious for a room in Tokyo. We stayed across from the main building, where reception and coin laundry are located. Some issue we had during our stay was the odor (the room smelled like feet-maybe because the room was carpeted and the ventilation was not amazing; I had to get room refresher spray day) and squeaky bed/bed frame. It would've been nice if there was a humidifier since the air does get air throughout the night. Overall a nice space where we can comfortably lay out all our luggage in the room; a good 12 min walk to Golden Gai/Kabuki-cho. 7-11/Lawson are within 2-3 blocks away. Located near busy streets with lots of Korean shops.

I had a serious injury that required me to have immediate surgery. So I cancelled my reservation and communicated this to the host on the same day of my injury, a week ahead of the intend stay. The host was then able to have those dates rebooked with other guests because of the one-week notice I gave. I asked for some form of refund and the host completely denied it, quoting “to be fair to other guests”. Most hosts would grant at least partial refund if the situation is of out of guest control and especially if they are able to have the dates rebooked. So it seems this particular host is just deliberately being inhuman with their cancellation policies. There was no room for negotiation and no sympathy conveyed in our communication. All they care about is that now they get to earn double for the dates if they deny my refund request. I have not stayed with the hotel so I cannot comment on the place. However the frustrating communication I had with the host left me the worst impression among all hotels I booked in Japan.
