Peter and Helen run an amazing hotel, the food was amazing and the beds were so comfortable. The entire layout and design is great and there's nothing that we could say to improve anything! The location is ideal with a short walk to the harbour, shops and great connections to other towns and places by steam train or boat. So thank you Peter and Helen for having us and we will be coming back soon!

We received a very warm and friendly welcome on our arrival. The room was very well decorated with a careful attention to comfort and was absolutely spotless. The room was tidied and replenished every day (including Sunday). Added extras included fresh milk each day for your tea/coffee. The owners and staff were very friendly, informative and entertaining. They went much further than The Extra Mile. I will definitely re-book should we visit Torquay again and will certainly recommend to all our friends.

This was our first experience of a guest house having stayed in many five star hotels in the past (sometimes with very poor results). However, the Somerville is a class apart. Peter met us in the car park and helped us with our cases into his boutique home. He was extremely personable and very helpful. Very interested in our reasons for choosing his establishment, he didn't seem surprised to hear about our recent disappointing stay in one of Torquay's supposedly luxury hotels. He took us up to the delightful Somerville room which which has three televisions (including one in the bathroom)! This was stylishly furnished in a unique way with a nod to past splendours and the attention to detail was exceptional. Later, he even arranged a table for us in No 7, Torquay's premier fish restaurant, for that evening. This was no mean feat as it is notoriously difficult to book a table there at short notice. Fortunately, he was friends with the owner. In fact, he appears to be very well connected in the area! We enjoyed a very comfortable night and met Helen the following morning when she served us an excellent breakfast, including Eggs Royale and home made preserves. The purpose of our visit was to watch "A Question of Sport" at the Princess Theatre and he directed us to an excellent Italian restaurant for a pre performance meal. We only stayed for two nights but this experience was in sharp contrast to recent hotel stays where service, hospitality, and dining had been well below par despite the inflated costs. We can recommend The Somerville without reservation for a short stylish break where you will be most welcomed, entertained, and fed by a highly profession couple who really enjoy their work. Exception value for money and an experience you will want to repeat.

Such a lovely stay here for a long weekend, the hosts Peter and Helen are lovely too and nothing too much trouble. The suite was excellent, spotlessly clean (which I know it should be but that hasn’t always been the case in places we’ve stayed in the past) Breakfast was exceptional! highly recommended throughout, will definitely return

Received a warm welcome from Peter on our arrival at Somerville. Gave recommendations to several restaurants & bars to visit during our stay. Breakfast was delicious, catering for all dietary requirements. Thank you to Paul a fellow Welsh man at breakfast. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 The room was comfortable and luxurious with all amenities available for our stay. Somerville was well located with a short walk down to the harbour. Thank you all for a lovely stay. 👍

A luxury stay in five star boutique surroundings. Welcomed in the car park on arrival by Pete and shown into the spacious Meadfoot Suite with its luxury bedding. A fabulous choice at breakfast in a lovely dining space overlooking the mature gardens which framed the breakfast room beautifully. A lovely lounge which reflected the period of the hotel and a bar area to socialise. Pete is the perfect host with a story to tell. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has a fabulous sense of humour. He's a proud guy who understands hospitality and the fine details. As a guest, who doesn't want to be treated royally!!! At the Somerville you'll be looked after and helped in any way possible. You'll get a great insight into Torquay, and if it's your home away from home as it's for us, Pete will engage with you and build a great connection. We shared our second breakfast period with another couple who enjoyed the conversation about a wide range of subjects, especially Fawlty Towers and what we all expect to see from the window of a Torquay hotel. I could certainly recommend the Somerville. The bed and the breakfast are marvellous, the location is perfect within easy walking distance of superb restaurants and the mandatory Hole in the Wall pub dating from 1540. Whilst it's on the busy Babbacombe Road you won't be disturbed by traffic noise. Essentially, the Somerville is all about Peter though and his lovely wife Helen. Together they'll always go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Good old fashioned hospitality is for us what a five star boutique B&B should offer and the Somerville delivers in spades.

We have just come back from a lovely short break travelling down to Torquay. This was made so much nicer by our stay here the hosts were very attentive and offer lots of knowledge of local area. Breakfast was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Room was lovely and clean and lots of extras thought about. Thank you for a great stay and look forward to seeing again.
