"The hotel said the booking didn't include city tax and I'd have to pay it upon check-in, but thankfully Trip.com customer service helped me resolve it. The room they initially gave me was an inner courtyard room, which didn't let in any sunlight, and there were three or four steps leading up to the bathroom, which was odd. I went to the front desk to request a room with a street view, which was much more comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff service was excellent."

"Ideally situated in the heart of Trieste, this wonderful apartment had everything a solo traveller or couple would need. Immaculate throughout and with a welcome gift of chilled wine and water, initial impressions were extremely good. Over the next few days this extraordinary building yielded more welcome surprises- the library was an oasis of calm in which to unwind at the end of the day. Remote staff were excellent at responding promptly and efficiently to my request. I’ll definitely stay there again when I find myself in this beautiful city on the shores of the Adriatic."

The rooms are very simple, the furniture is minimal and a bit dated, but they are very clean and perfectly soundproofed. A small room with a kettle for tea and coffee is available to guests. Friendly welcome. Breakfast is not provided but there are many excellent pastry shops nearby"

"It is conveniently located in the center of Trieste, about a 10-minute walk from the train station and bus terminal, and about 5 minutes from the square in the center of the city. The area is quiet on Sundays, but lively on weekdays, and there are many restaurants and grocery stores. The room is in an old building, so the ceiling is high and it is quite spacious. I stayed in a room with a shared shower and toilet, but it was nice that there was a sink in my room. The staff mainly speak Italian, but are very friendly."

"As I arrived early in the morning, I went to the counter to leave my luggage first, and they served me a complimentary plate of coffee and croissants. It was wonderful hospitality. However, although the booking page on Trip.com said "1 queen bed", the actual room had "1 single bed" (I'm not sure if this is Trip.com's fault or the hotel's)."

"I only stayed at the Horel Miramare for 1 night during a trip with my husband. It is located in a convenient location a few minutes walk from the Castle, the staff is very friendly and kind, the view from the room on the sea is truly breathtaking, but the Hotel is certainly to be considered more 3 stars and not 4 for everything from breakfast to bathroom, the shower with the uncomfortable fabric curtain, of the deteriorated parts such as the doors, on the ground contours dirty especially around sanitary fixtures. Overall good but certainly not excellent 4 star."

"Booked this hotel on night before a cruise from Trieste. The room was very spacious, the bed was comfortable. The room lacked usb sockets. Everyone has smart phones now. In terms of value,the hotel rated very well. The reception staff were friendly and excellent. They arranged a meal for us at a nearby restaurant this saved our time in exploring and taking pot luck."

"Unfortunately, I must give the hotel the lowest rating. We had a problem because people complained about noise coming from our room, when in reality my wife was just laughing during a phone call. At 1 a.m., the concierge came up with the complainers and threatened to call the police, which I find totally inappropriate. A hotel that presents itself as a 5-star hotel should handle these types of situations more professionally and, above all, have good soundproofing to avoid this type of inconvenience among guests."

"Although we had booked and paid for several nights in advance, we left after 1 night. Our booking process had not made us aware the B&B was three floors up with no elevator. We also did not have advance information that the doors were locked after 7:00 pm. After contacting the owner we were told she had tried to text and call us. But as foreign tourists we were not using the cell number she had for the booking. Nothing but a scolding from her. I wish others a better experience - perhaps young people with light luggage and an early planned arrival."

"I wasn't very satisfied with the room; I'm quite tall and kept bumping my head. Then there was the bed – it was incredibly uncomfortable. As soon as you lay down, you sank right in, like sleeping in a hammock. Why would I pay 50 or 60 euros to sleep in a hammock? It felt like those huge, square pillows I've encountered in some German hotels. I hope those who understand know what I mean. This was my first time staying at a Airbnb, and I won't stay there again unless absolutely necessary."
