"We had the special ginger soy salmon which was the best pub meal we’ve had anywhere in Aus or overseas. Our friends had the veal schnitzel and banger and mash which were both also excellent. Definitely recommend coming here when you’re visiting Tumut!"

"The first things we noticed about our room at the Oriental Hotel were the earplugs on the bath-towels on the bed (where in other hotels you might get a cake of soap). All a bit alarming, and is was very noisy from say 5 to 6pm with lots of logging trucks rumbling past in the street outside. But after that it was quiet - we had no need for the earplugs at all. Overall, we thought the hotel very good, though were disappointed with the wifi reception in our room (it was better in the bar downstairs). We had seen reviews that commented on the excellent wifi that sold us on the place but when we got there it was a different story, with the woman who checked us in saying it could be 'hit and miss'. It was more miss than hit on our visit. On the plus side, the room was relatively spacious for an older style hotel, the bed comfortable and the shared bathrooms spotlessly clean. The tariff was reasonable and, downstairs in the pub, there is an excellent, highly rated restaurant (another reason we stayed here) and a pleasant bar area. The wide balcony outside the room was also excellent, but definitely not between 5 and 6pm for the reasons stated before."

"Located very close to shops and facilities in the middle of town. Rooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. Shower temperature was great and water pressure also great. Wifi was very poor. We had to organize our own alternative wifi facility so this was a big turn off. It was a pity because everything else was great."

"My family and I stayed here for a week over Christmas with my French bulldog. As it was rather hot we often left the dog inside the cottage while we were out and the cottage was very set up for us to do so. We were a bit nervous was to how the farm animals would react to our dog but they must have been so used to dogs because they couldn’t care less. We saw cows ( my fave animal), sheep, wombats, kangaroos, kookaburras, and many more different animals and each one was so beautiful. This place is the place to come to for the Australiana vibes. The river was just as gorgeous and was perfect for tubing or just a dip. The guy who owns this place was a great bloke who gave us tips on were to go tubing, lent us a rubber tube for the week, told us a bit about the farm, and was just overall a great guy to chat to. He even gave my brother and I a branded hat at the end. The whole scenery and vibes of the farm was perfect for a break away from everything. If you’re thinking of coming to Tumut, with or within your dog, The Elms Cottages is the place to stay."
