Hotel Meierhof Self-Check-IN

This was our third stay at the Meierhof hotel. Several years ago, back in 2017, we stayed there with my mother-in-law, visiting us from Hong Kong. It was wonderful with very friendly staff at the reception and during breakfast. The room was great and cleaned every day. We felt welcome and appreciated the overall service. In December 2019 we stayed for a few nights with my daugther visiting from the US - and we had a small appartment. Although there was only the self check-in availale, it was a decent stay. The appartement also had a small kitchen, was clean and of good standard. Breakfast was ok too with friendly staff and a decent choice. But it was not as good as back in 2017. We now stayed again at the Meierhof hotel, visiting family and friends for the first time in 18 months - due to the pandemic. The self check-in still felt very unpleasant - it is a machine and not a person. The room was ok. My main criticism: the first day the room was not made. We were told that we had the red sign outside the door. This is true - until we left for the day around 0900 hours. There is one staff member present during breakfast. The first person was wearing her mask (not properly but at least). For the 2nd two days the staff member was not even bothered wearing a mask. And they did not say anything to guests entering the breakfast room / lobby who were not wearing a mask. This should not happen. I doubt that Liechtenstein would have different rules on this important topic. We asked twice for the shower gel to be filled up (we were running low). That did not happen either . There is no telephone in the room and no minibar either. The safe in our room was broken. Meierhof was a great hotel - when they still had staff around - staff with a smile. Profit is now more important. Saving from staff available (the breakfast person also seems to clean the rooms) to a very limited breakfast selection: It has a serious impact on how we felt and I think for the price paid (not the most expensive but at 150 EUR per night not the cheapest hotel either) we got very little value. Our next stay in the area will probably cost us more as we will go for a different hotel - we are willing to pay for good service. Clearly something we do not get anymore at the Meierhof hotel.
