The Fiji Orchid

Vuda
The website photos makes this look like a luxe stay but the bures have a tired, worn-out feel and need a lot of maintenance. I suspect the pictures were taken fifteen years ago when the resort opened and not much upkeep has been done since. The floors are faded and scratched - a simple refinishing would go a long way. The structure has apparently settled as there are gaps in the joints and the bathroom ceiling sags. Speaking of the bathroom, the shower head has corroded out in a few places and delivers a seriously inconsistent spray. Design-wise, the water closet is too small: everything is based on one-meter squares and it's smaller than an airplane toilet. (I hit my head on the door every time I sat down on the toilet). The water heater for our bure is much too small (probably 100 litres) and running out of hot water was the norm. Also no showers back-to-back, the heater needs recovery time. While the photos show all of these wide-open doors to let the outside in, when we suggested it the staff said it was a bad idea because of all the mosquitos. They also helpfully suggested that we don't take a walk to the beach down the road as a number of guests have been robbed while walking down the road. I'm not sure how the website can claim that the bures are 860 square feet; the interior space is 4x8 meters (344 sq feet) and including the outside verandah, the size is 52 sq meters (560 sq feet). Maybe the footprint of the canvas roof is 860 square feet but claiming that as the size of the bure is quite a stretch. On the positive side: The grounds are beautiful, the staff was very helpful and the food was quite good. If the owners had just taken six months of the COVID shutdown to perform some routine maintenance, and if the grounds were in a safer location, this would have been an easy recommendation. As it is, we wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend it to friends...

Crusoe's Retreat - Family Friendly

Crusoe's Retreat - Family Friendly

Viti Levu
I went to Crusoe's Retreat after staying at an island of Coral Coast, so we had to take a short bus ride and then a taxi to get there. The resort is located at the end of a long and winding road. When we finally got to the top of the hill prior to descending to the reception area - I was impressed by the view of the ocean. All rooms have an amazing view, unfortunately they all require a lot of walking to get to. Except for a few fairly close to the main building. This is not a deterrent for me - however, those who don't like a lot of steps should take it into consideration. The views are spectacular and the sunsets are not blocked off by anything for the higher level rooms. My seaview bure was quite roomy, had a comfortable bed, was very clean, had louvered windows, a ceiling fan, was well lit, had a deck and a spacious bathroom with quick and plentiful hot water. Also a roomy little fridge and tea and coffee making supplies. Breakfast was included - it was cereals, toast, fresh baking, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. I could also have ordered breakfast off the menu but was satisfied with the one provided. The meal plan is available - but it was recommended to me to forego it and to just order off the menu at meal time. As it turns out - I ate very well and paid less than if I had taken the meal plan. The prices are a bit higher than usual Fijian restaurants, the portions are very large and they are well prepared. The menu has a fair variety and there is a fully stocked bar. I enjoyed every meal I had there, the fish was particularly good. One can also eat or have a drink at the beach bar building, which is over the ocean. There is a unique pool, a hot tub and a very big ocean. Depending on the tide, one can walk for miles down the beach. Massages are available in a building down by the beach. Sunset cruises are available, there is snorkelling trips available and they will arrange fishing trips. During dinner and in the evening, we had entertainment which was mainly music and singing, quite enjoyable. There is a small village next door to the resort and visitors are welcome to visit. All of the staff are outgoing, friendly and knowledgeable. When I left - all the staff in the main building left whatever they were doing and came to sing me a farewell song. All in all, I was quite happy and would return to Crusoe's.

Kalevu Cultural Centre

The Crow's Nest Resort

The Crow's Nest Resort

Korotogo|5.8km from Kalevu Cultural Centre
Called in my reservation by phone and received confirmation by Sera. Arrived at Crows Nest around 3pm and was warmly greeted by Asinate and quickly checked into my villa. Everything went smoothly. The villa itself is old and dated but clean. I've stayed at Crows Nest several times before and sometimes it can be busy with families and kids or with large youth groups or sports teams but this time it was fairly empty and quiet which was nice. This place holds a lot of memories for my family as well when we used to stay there some 40 years ago. It's location on the coral coast is ideal but the beach isn't an ideal swimming beach. It might be good for snorkeling but not for swimming. There are alot of sharp coral and broken glass on the beach. In addition there are alot of snake like looking creatures in the water. They're harmless but if you have kids it might freak them out a bit :) The pool looked clean although we didn't go swimming in it because it was raining and a little cold. The restaurant is okay. Ate there two nights in a row and ordered the same dish because I loved it the first night but on the second night it was not very good. So the restaurant is a hit or miss for me. The free breakfast consisted of two different cereals, milk, cakes, toast, jam, butter, watermelon, papaya, pineapple and orange juice. Very basic but appreciated. In the past I've paid anywhere from FJ$189 to FJ$239 on this particular trip so it varies. Quiet on the high side I feel for this particular resort as compared to some of the other higher end resorts. The staff overall were nice on this particular trip. My vehicle was safe in the parking lot for the two nights and three days we were there. The villa itself has a queen bed and two single beds, bathroom, no living area but a lanai with chairs and a kitchen. There is no cooking appliance or microwave but they do have a hot water kettle and a mini fridge. The cupboards were bare. Only had a couple of mugs, no utensils, bowls or plates. Check out went smoothly. Of the few times I've stayed here I've never been able to get a late check out even with an empty resort. Check out is at 10am. This is just an FYI in case you have a late afternoon flight and was planning on a later check out. However, Asinate at the front desk was friendly and professional. I've stayed at much nicer resorts but this place just holds some memories and provides a simple and friendly atmosphere as compared to the commercial Bula type experience you'd receive at a five star resort. Overall a great family friendly place to spend the night. There is no night life in this area but if you're looking for a little peace and quiet without the commercialization feel of the larger resorts then this is the place.

The Marina Naisoso

Aquarius on The Beach

Aquarius on The Beach

Nadi|2.21km from The Marina Naisoso
Stayed in Aquarius for 7 days. I went to Fiji to live here. I reported a day trip every day and there was a car transfer, which was very convenient. Comprehensive, cost-effective eat: Three Western foods, you can choose your own. The breakfast bread slices are roasted, black, and very fragrant. The bean paste is also very tasty, very fresh, and it is fresh. There are also special menus for a few days, very good. If you come in the morning, you will basically eat here, eat well and start again. live: More cost-effective hotel, but not the kind of star, I live in a big bed room, wooden top, very feeling, air conditioning is also very cool, very comfortable. The bed is also soft and moderate, the sheets are very clean, no hair, and sleep well. The console that washes the face is very large and spacious, and I have seen the biggest console. The local area seems to be not a bathing liquid, only coconut milk soap, I feel that it is not enough to haul and bring my own. Fiji is a three-hole plug that comes with a patch cord or a multi-purpose charging head. There is no such thing as drying clothes. Laundry seems to require money. We wash it ourselves and hang it in the room. The sun is shining and it is done in one day. Row: Aquarius here is a full-day transfer, very convenient, to the door, basically no need to walk. The doorway is facing the sea, there is a beach, it will go for a meal after eating, and it feels good to barefoot. Features: The local service staff is dressed in a holiday style, with a small red head flower, which is very suitable for the local people. There will be activities on the evening round, with time to inform. We were very happy to meet the local torch dance, knife dance, local dance, and with the joyful jumping notes, watching the thrilling performances was really an unforgettable night. In particular, the knife dance and the torch dance here are higher than those on other islands. There are not so many mistakes. Although there are few people, they are really beautiful and very much like it!

Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa, an IHG Hotel

Nadi|2.26km from The Marina Naisoso
The overall service is very good. The brand new hotel has just opened a week ago. Although not all restaurants are open, the service is great. Breakfast is a continental buffet. Eggs Benedict is good. During the day we went shopping downtown and ordered a pick-up service from the hotel's tour manager. The tour guides Vicky (day 1) and Sam (day 2) both did a great job not only picking us up from point to point but showing us around the city and giving us great tips while we were shopping. Even though we were a little late, they waited patiently for us. Overall, the stay at the Crowne Plaza, I would say, was not up to five star standards as not all restaurants were open. However, I would give them six stars for their service and sense of service. Looking forward to visiting again. Dre Ko Malolo

Nila Beach Resort

Nila Beach Resort

Vuda|1.56km from Dre Ko Malolo
Let’s start with that this was a last minute booking as there was no other 7 point or above guest rated accommodation available in Nadi and this is in comparison to many other hotel/resorts that I have stayed-in in the past. Location - It is literally in the middle of no where by Fiji standards. In the middle of Nadi and Lautoka town so take a pick on which direction you want to travel about 25min by car. Hard to find taxi’s as there isn’t a dedicated taxi stand. You will have to call one in for yourself. Resort - Don’t expect a typical big Hotel/Resort style reception. The reception area is a small office at the back of a home opposite the restaurant, like a home office. Room - Room was decent size, clean at a quick glance but not clean enough if want to be critical for the amount you pay for the room. Dusty bits in corners, some places in the shower and toilet area had black spots (didn’t want to find out what it was) especially on the walls, shower track was dirty and tiled floors and walls just needs a good clean. The room was adjoining style with a door separating the two rooms and that was just not enough to keep the conversation next door out of my room. Can’t say the walls were thin as it’s all concrete. The King size bed was of a better quality. I found it weird that it had a flat sheet on top and the doona was initially just thrown in the cupboard. Usually it is fitted with the flat sheet. We used the doona the first day and then there after it was neatly folded away in the cupboard. Didn’t want to find out if the doona covers were changed or not. If you are looking for a place with sandy beach and to swim in the ocean then this may not be it. There is a small beach area (if you can call it that) between mangrove and rocks. You will get a tan but that’s about it. The deal came with breakfast but 1 day of breaky was enough. The selection was minimal and very basic and honestly not worth getting up for. It’s a different case if you don’t have wheels to explore other places. Wifi is not reliable at all and is as slow as it can be. Basic functions are ok in but wanting to stream movies, then forget it. And you will be lucky to get a ok connection in parts of the room. I just believe that tourism in Fiji has just boomed and due to high turnover, there is not enough time to get a thorough clean and maintain in the turn time. This may not be true for main stream or bigger hotel chains where more staff are employed a standard is to be maintained but certainly for the smaller hotel/resorts, it certainly seems to be the case. My verdict - Would I book again if I had a choice, then NO. Would I book again if I had to, then yes as it’s decent but still not worth the prices I have seen online for the establishment. Kudos to staff for going out of their way to make things happen to the best of their ability.

Wonderful stay! Thoroughly recommend. Felt totally safe and secure. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Site was clean, air-con, well serviced and central to town. Onsite security helped with taxis and local information. Breakfast was included and much better than many more expensive accommodations. Other guests were friendly and courteous. Like minded people who want a low cost stay, but the frills being the basics to a high standard. Pool is a bonus. We will be back!!!

Yadua Bay Resort & Villas

A great trip. The hotel is nice and the location is good. The front is Yadua Bay. It takes 5 minutes to the small town of Xinkatuoka. There is no Chinese restaurant. The Chinese restaurant of Xinkatuoka on Ctrip closed early. There are grey-blue magpie sea snakes in the distance, so be careful. There are many small crabs by the sea. It is recommended to eat in the hotel restaurant. We ate breakfast on the first day and it was not delicious. Later I bought a rice cooker for 35 Fiji coins to cook my own porridge in the morning. But lunch and dinner were still very good. I ate beef rice for 7 days. The rest is attached
Ramada Suites by Wyndham Wailoaloa Beach Fiji
4.5/554 Reviews
Its business suites - includes kitchen and laundry in room. Always great to have these services. Beach isnt much, think walk along rather than swim. This is one of 3-4 hotels in a row beachfront. Guests primarily those passing thru to islands, backpackers and groups. The hotels’ beachfront bars were quiet during week in May but came alive for weekend. Restaurant on top floor had great views. Service very slow in restaurants of all these hotels. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Ratsun Nadi Airport Apartment Hotel

The apartment hotel has no breakfast, the rooms are clean, the location is excellent, and the airport is relatively close. You can find a place to eat on foot. Cost-effective. There is parking outside. Much better than an adjacent four star hotel.
Tanoa Plaza Hotel
3.9/547 Reviews
Excellent 5 star services from the staff at Tanoa Plaza. Staff are always smiling and serving with sincerity. Special thanks to Laite from the sales, Rusilla, Abby, Solo, Ema, Asmila, Vika. Kelera who really took care of us during our stay at Tanoa Plaza. Food is simple but great. We stayed on the executive King room which was comfortable but air conditioning was a little noisy. The lift broke down a couple of times but they are putting in a new one, so hopefully next time it will be working well!
