Grand Hotel Moon Valley

My first trip to Italy and what a gem of a place to chose through Jet2. Hotel, staff and location all amazing. Will definitely be back. A special thank you to Marieanna and Salvadore for adding that special touch and for you patience with my badly spoken Italian. Till next time.... Tracey

Stayed here in August as a solo traveller and I chose Grand Hotel Moon Valley based on it's location from Pompeii and other local attractions which was the purpose of my visit. The hotel is absolutely not a 4* star hotel in my opinion and I don't know how its achieved this accolade. I'd put it somewhere between a 2* and a 3* because it is in dire need of a refurbishment and the service levels are nowhere near 4* standards. The furnishings in rooms are old, tired and outdated. The single/solo traveller rooms aren't great, these are probably the worst rooms in the hotel as they don't have a balcony and are tiny. To be fair I had set my expectations quite low for the room anyway and didn't intend on spending a lot of time in it. If you're a solo traveller using this as a base only, then it's perfectly ok for that purpose, just don't expect luxury here. The rooms have actual physical keys attached to gigantic heavy keyrings which is also very old fashioned. No tea or coffee making facilities which is unusual for a 4* hotel but not a problem for me since I always bring my own facilities with me just in case! The hotel are using thin bed sheets as towels in the bathroom?! I went down to reception to say there weren't any bath towels but apparently the sheets in the bathroom are towels?! Never seen anything like it anywhere I've ever stayed; even 2* bargain basement hotels have proper towels! I ended up buying by own toilet paper as I was getting through a roll a day of the cheap 1-ply stuff the hotel provides and the hotel were being stingy with it! On a positive note I was pleased that use of the safe was included in the price of the room and does not incur an additional fee unlike most hotels in other destinations. There is also a mini fridge which is free to use. I found the hotel staff to be generally ok. The staff on reception were helpful and answered my questions, however, service on the front desk would be much improved if the staff could manage a smile every now and then. I was often greeted with stony faces and there were never any pleasantries from the front desk staff. There are clearly some staff who don't speak very good English and I found that while waiting at the bar the waiters would ignore or avoid me until an English speaking waiter was available which wasn't the best service. The lady who tends to guests at dinner was really friendly as were most of the wait staff who do smile and are really pleasant to deal with. The cleaning staff were also pleasant and polite. There is a small mini-mart & deli just down the road from the hotel entrance. The prices are great for essentials. The prices for drinks in the hotel are horrendous, very expensive. Visit the mini mart instead. Crossing the road to the mini-mart is a nightmare as it's such a busy road. If you have mobility problems this hotel and this area might not be for you. We stayed here as a family of four with our friends and their family. The hotel was everything I wanted it to be, clean and comfortable. I found the staff really friendly and they all worked so hard. The pool is gorgeous in a lovely setting and lovely and warm. We always found sunbeds and the meals were mixed but we never went hungry. The hotels pizzas are really tasty. It is slightly out of sorrento but it’s a short walk to to the train station and only a 10 minute ride into Sorrento. I appreciate those with mobility issues may find it more difficult, there are bus stops outside the hotel and the hotel offers a free shuttle into sorrento which you must pre book. Honestly had a wonderful time and thank you to the amazing staff for making our holiday.

We had a great stay here, we stayed on b&b basis. the hotel is impeccably clean, pool area is superb with great views and large relative to size of hotel. The pool bar does excellent lunch, the breakfast is basic youth hostel level. The local deli la cascina and the tabac in the village are superb as is the local restaurant la banta which would be easily passed but shouldn’t be. The only issue with hotel is the location, it is 1/2hr walk downhill to seiano and £30 taxi back up. It feels a but hemmed in by an incredibly busy road and the pedestrian routes are very limited, the walk downhill to seiano isn’t nice or easy. Seiano train station is 5 mins down the hill and it’s £1.50 into sorrento, quick and easy likewise for vico equense which is really where you are and a bit of a hassle for evenings to be honest, the hotel also offers a free shuttle bus which you can pre-book to sorrento. We had a great time just a difficult location but it feels harsh to criticise also, a conflcted review!

Absolutely lovely hotel. Staff are so kind and helpful, we were very well looked after. The hotel and rooms were incredibly clean and everything was very well kept. We stayed half board and everyone really enjoyed the evening meals which were delicious and plentiful for hungry teenagers. Breakfast too was great with lots of choice. Read a few negative reviews on here which we didn’t understand. Not our experience at all! Some people are never happy but we certainly were. We hope to return!

My family had a really nice experience at the hotel. I felt the need to write a review because some others leave negative reviews of the hotel but that was not our experience. It was a lovely memorable stay. The price from Jet2 was great so we booked 2 rooms for our family. We had a sea view room with a jaw dropping view of the bay of Naples. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely. Quiet and calm. The pool was lovely to swim in. Our room was nicely decorated and was spacious and cool. The food was a bit hit and miss. Mostly it was good. They serve classic Italian food which is not what people in the UK think Italian food is. They didn't serve pizza at lunch during the week which was a shame. We were looking for to pizza by the pool. Tips Other reviews talk about a long walk to the harbour area bit you can get a local bus there and back. We used the local train station (10 mins walk) to visit Pompeii which took us right to the door. We booked direct with Pompeii because under 18s go free. I wouldn't bother booking a boat trip from seiano harbour as all they do is take you to Sorrento harbour and you have to change. Better and quicker to go direct to Sorrento either by hotel shuttle or train and start your trip from there.
