A truly amazing afternoon with the icing on the cake… The Priory Cream Tea. Warm welcome by such a pleasant lady on reception. We were early as we’d heard the gardens were something not to miss and given we had a beautiful sunny Spring day we took the opportunity to explore. If visiting don’t miss the gardens, clearly the gardening team take enormous pride in their work. The location is adjacent to the River Frome and is just idyllic. After walking the gardens we sat on the terrace before we tea was served. A great spot to relax and unwind. The afternoon tea was served complimented by refreshing tea. We chose Earl Grey and Assam but lots of choice in the John Turner room. A stunning inglenook fireplace is I expect part of the original building. Finger sandwiches were very fresh, tasty and just a little different. Plain and fruit scones (nicely warm) accompanied with very generous portions of delicious strawberry jam and local clotted cream plus a delicious selection of patisserie and an Eton mess treat. Our waiting staff, a young gentleman and lady were courteous, kind and acknowledged we were celebrating a combination birthday and Wedding anniversary. Thank you! What an amazing treat it was to visit such a stunning location, a great hospitality team and superb culinary expertise. Thank you so much for a wonderful visit. We will definitely return and cannot recommend highly enough.

Shocking /surprised So we arrived at the priory from our boat at the back of the establishment as we were celebrating my partners birthday and had around 30 minutes to spare before we turned and headed back to Poole. We sat outside on one of the tables and waited for a member of staff to come out, after around 10 minutes my partner decided to look for someone, on finding a member of staff called Basher who was quite abrupt on being told that 30 minutes might not be long enough to order even though my partner said it was for drinks only, we’d waited a further 5 minutes before a staff member came out and served us and ordered our drinks. Now the fun began when we attempted to pay for the bill, after walking around the premises visiting the bar, then reception then at the back again we could not find any staff member to pay our bill, one of our party actually jokingly said let’s just get back to the boat and go which we probably would of not been even stopped!! When we finally found someone to pay the bill once again I was shocked that the customer service once again was way below the standard I thought of this establishment, I work in customer service and if I had been as short to my customers as your staff I would be taken to one side and had a stern talking to from my superiors. We have visited the priory before and was completely shocked at such a bad service, such a shame as first impressions are a must in any business and im afraid Basher did not do herself any favours by being quite abrupt with my partner and her friend which has resulted in this review

We decided to take a trip down the river and moored the boat outside the hotel. We went to try to get a drink. Basha the receptionist was very unfriendly telling us that they had two parties to attend to and therefore we needed to wait which ordinarily would have been fine but she was very rude and disinterested. We finally got some drinks and then needed to pay the bill. There was no one to be seen. Three of us searched for ten minutes to locate someone. Once again the staff were less than helpful saying we would have to wait again at which point my friend mentioned we were in a slight hurry as we'd been waiting too long to pay the bill and we needed get back before the tide was tricky. I would not recommend this place based on this experience it certainly took the edge off my birthday celebration. I'm not sure if they don't want people coming for a drink? There was no warm welcome from Basha, it was astonishingly poor service with the exception of one lady who was friendly. Extremely disappointed as was a birthday celebration

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch for my 64th birthday (I didn't tell them)! The staff were very attentive and friendly. A great place to celebrate and a memorable one too. The food was beautifully presented and all three courses were exceptional, compliments to the chef. It's in a gorgeous setting by the river and the building must have secrets within those walls. Would love to stay there but we live very close by but I expect the rooms are all sumptuous.

We enjoyed a great lunch on a Saturday…Garden Room is spacious with a decent menu. Wine list is predominantly European, but a very good selection of English Wines too. Lunch was excellent and whilst our Beef Fillet was certainly very overcooked, it did not distract from the general enjoyment of the visit. Christian was a tremendous host and someone who offered some great wine pointers.

I had booked lunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday and from the moment we arrived nothing was too much. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The meal was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. The accompanying wine chosen by Christian subtly enhance the food. After the meal in the Garden Room we enjoyed coffee sitting on the riverbank which was a very restful experience. We always enjoy visiting the Priory and have done so for over 40 years. The experience each time has always been special and thoroughly appreciated.
