Stayed Het Wethuys 17&19 Sep 2022 whilst touring the WW1 battle fields. We received such a warm welcome from Barbara (who speak excellent English) at this lovely little family run hotel. The hotel is located right in the middle of Watou, very close to beautiful country scenery remote from the large towns but not too far if you wanted to take a drive. There is free parking opposite the hotel in the small cobbled market square. If you are there for B&B, there is a do it yourself buffet style breakfast that was more than adequate and excellent starter for the day. Continental breakfast, a great range of fresh bread rolls pastries, selection of meats and cheese, preserves, eggs (cook your own eggs (boil or fry), toast, yogurts, tea, coffee and orange juice. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the evening of our stay and our meals were excellent and good value. We had a really enjoyable stay and hope to go back in the near future, would definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a lovely little family-run hotel with very friendly and charming staff. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, lots of different cheese and hams etc. We did not have dinner here during this stay but we have in the past and the food was excellent too. The hotel is located right in the middle of Watou, very close to beautiful scenery and within walking distance to the nearby St Bernardus Brewery and Bar. There is free parking opposite the hotel in the small market square. The hotel owner speaks excellent English and is happy to explain the about the history of the hotel to visitors. A lovely stay - we hope to go back soon.

Na een fietstocht door Frans-Vlaanderen vanuit Watou in Het Wethuys een warme maaltijd gaan eten. Vriendelijke ontvangst, mochten zélf een tafel kiezen... Luidruchtige bende (5 pers.) zat te roepen en luid praten naast ons. Spijtig. Een dame gaf gans de oorzaak van depressie en trauma, voor de rest leerden wij de streel van Benidorm kennen... Een restaurant is geen kroeg !!! We bestelden toch 2x de menu aan 18€. Mijn vrouw haar visje was lekker, het slaatje vers, weinig frietjes, heerlijk pincetje wit wijntje, lekkere koffie. Mijn rundsstoofvlees van het huis daarentegen was 'miserabel !!!' Lauw en bovenkant warm (dus opgewarmd), een vijftal stukjes vlees en de rest een vettige gekabbelde saus. Ik durf zeggen dat dit stoofvlees waarschijnlijk uit een conservendoos kwam. De frisse twee Omer-biertjes waren lekker fris, de koffie was héérlijk. Pintje drinken is daar OK. Maar het is géén rustig aangenaam restaurant.

Na eerdere postieve ervaring hebben we deze keer een ander verhaal. Onze, duurdere, kamer grensde aan een dakterras met speeltoestellen voor de deur. Het glas van deur en raam waren afgeplakt. Erger nog was de verbinding met de naastgelegen kamer, een deur waardoor alle geluiden van de buren werden opgevangen tot en met zwaar gesnurk gedurende de nacht. Het synsthetische, zwaar naar wasverzachter geurende, beddengoed hielp niet mee in deze warme nacht.Voor het ontbijt zou zelfs een Stayokay zich schamen: geen verse sap, eitje, keuze uit kazen, yoghurt zonder suiker, etc voor 20,00 p.p. Voor totaal 160,00 voor twee personen zijn er wellicht betere plekken met een beleefdere omgang. De t****e nacht hebben we dan ook afgeboekt. Van een hotel dat zich postief als sponsor verbindt met het Kunstenfestival hadden we echt wat beters verwacht.
