"This week at the Riverdale Hotel has been so enjoyable. The staff could not be more helpful. The food was excellent and well presented. There were 9 of us touring on our bikes and we all felt the same. Special thanks to Lee and Kerry who looked after us. A hidden gem with lovely grounds and lovely clean rooms."

Kellah Farm B&b/Cottages ★★★★

📍 Kellah, Farm, Haltwhistle

"We massively appreciate for accommodating our late check‑in at 21:30. From the moment we arrived, the stay felt genuinely welcoming. The farm itself is peaceful and beautifully kept, and we had a lovely night’s rest followed by a fantastic breakfast in the morning before heading out to the Roman Museum. The location is excellent, easy to reach, and perfectly placed for exploring the area. The property owner was absolutely brilliant — thoughtful, friendly, and genuinely keen for us to enjoy the experience of staying on their farm. Highly recommend Kellah Farm to anyone visiting Haltwhistle. A wonderful stay from start to finish."

Brown Rigg Guest Rooms ★★★

📍 Brown Rigg, Bellingham

"Exceptionally clean beautiful bedding extras like a place to put hot items like hair straighter and tv controls were in a new plastic bag to maintain cleanliness. The shared facilities including kitchen were also outstanding. I took my neice to see the Perseids meteor shower as this is a dark sky area, we also saw the Milky Way thousands of stars and the northern lights. Quiet immaculate place in the middle of the countryside in darks sky very beautiful. The only difficulty for us is that we arrived on a very hot day, the room was very warm even with the fan but this was extreme weather! I did love the shutters on the windows though great for keeping the shade if you want. Lovely welcome from the staff and shown around so we knew where facilities were"

The Bowes Hotel
9.2 (49 reviews)

The Bowes Hotel ★★★★

📍 Hexham, Bardon Mill

"A simply amazing stay. Firstly Ian and his team helped us remedy an error made by ******* on booking rooms at the Bowes hotel. Really friendly and interpersonal staff along with extensive knowledge of the area and further beyond particularly Hadrian's Wall path along with the Roman Museums and Forts. The food served was amazing aswell, better than some other independent restaurants, also the Thai-cakes are a must try! The room is clean and tidy with a great buffet breakfast to boot, they also make lunch for your journey ahead. If you are staying at Bardon Mill, this is the place to be, just a walk away from the station that connects back to Newcastle. Friendly neighbourhood and locals that shares stories from their journeys and also fellow travellers from around the world mostly doing the Hadrian's Wall walk. I cannot fault this wonderful and cosy hotel and pub that is the Bowes Hotel!"

Battlesteads ★★★★
"Comfortable room, nice selction of toiletries with pleasant scent. lovely food. Battlesteads was able to accommodate a pet dog ( pet pack also included) . Great selection for brealfast and tasty Ringtons coffee. This was a birthday break so only one night stay , Booked bed and breakfast, decided to add evening meal. The village of Wark is lovely to walk around, cross over bridge to football field one way and dog walk the other, weather helped make the stay as it was warm Autumn sunshine. Saw Grey Heron by the riverbank. Would recommend and would go again."

"Stayed as a solo traveller with my dog Sky we stayed in the single Redheuth room with access into the beer garden which suited my needs perfectly to let Sky out as he required Early season I was sadly the only guest for my 2 nights and unfortunately the chef was on holiday so I had to travel 5 miles to Bellingham to find somewhere to dine but the roads are nice to drive with the scenery so not too bad. Juilan looked after Sky & I really well and the cooked breakfast was gorgeous made to my liking so thanks for that The room is very small but as a solo person it worked for me it had everything I needed brewing facilities an ensuite and a bed as I wasn't there much as I was taking in the beauty of the area Thanks Juilan & Loiana Regards Paul & Sky 🐶"

George Hotel ★★★
"The hotel is in a very good location, convenient for visiting Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding countryside. There is a small river flowing next to it, and the scenery is very beautiful. The hotel is a bit old, but it is well maintained, and the bathroom seems to have been renovated. There are plenty of parking spaces in the parking lot. The breakfast is good, but dinner is not all-inclusive. You have to order it yourself, within 25 pounds, and you don't get a refund if you pay more, and you get more if you pay less, which is a bit unusual."

"The Bowes Motel is a charming old inn in Barton Mill, and the staff makes you feel like family. They modified the bedding to make us more comfortable, were willing to make substitutions on the menus, packed us lunches and offered us lifts to places we needed to go. Dinner there was superb. The place has character and the people were wonderfully helpful and accommodating"
